Chapter three
This man had to be joking!
"It's already 8:30, and I need to get back home," I exclaimed, my voice filled with desperation.
The Lycan King paused for a moment, his gaze locked with mine, and then he spoke in a gentler tone.
"Very well," he conceded, releasing his hold on my arm. He continued, "You can leave. But remember, you cannot escape destiny."
I let out a sigh of relief and hurriedly moved away from him. I reached for my scattered clothes on the floor, hastily dressing myself before fleeing the room. My mind was a whirlwind of confusion and tension as I made my escape.
"And I'm asking you for the last time, Catherine. Where have you been since yesterday?" Alpha Damien inquired, paying no attention to his conniving girlfriend, Seraphina, who sat on his lap, showering him with kisses.
Alpha Damien had bombarded me with questions ever since I returned to his chamber, but I hadn't mustered the courage to answer him. He didn't even acknowledge Seraphina's attempts to divert his attention.
"But you promised me the opportunity to spend my eighteenth birthday outside, bonding with my wolf," I finally broke the silence, my hands clasped together.
"Is that why you didn't come home last night? Look at the time, Catherine. It's past 8 a.m., and your household duties remain undone," Alpha Damien retorted, his voice sharp as he pointed at the wall clock hanging above my head.
"I apologize for not returning home last night, and I'll attend to my chores immediately," I replied, wrinkling my nose and pleading.
I walked past him, heading toward my room, but he halted me once more.
"Why do you reek of alcohol? You don't drink liquor," Alpha Damien questioned, his eyes flashing with anger.
"What do you expect from a she-wolf who's been rejected by her mate?" I scoffed, my voice trembling.
"Then who gave you alcohol? As far as I know, you're too impoverished to afford anything other than bottled water," Alpha Damien said, rising from his chair, causing it to topple. Seraphina nearly injured herself as she was unceremoniously ejected from his lap.
"Come on, Alpha Damien! You're taking this too far. She's just a maid in this pack, utterly insignificant. Who cares what she does with her life?" Seraphina chimed in, approaching Alpha Damien and caressing his beard.
I was stunned to see Alpha Damien reacting with such fury. I had never witnessed him so furious with me before. I never realized he cared about me to this extent.
"Stay out of this, Seraphina!" Alpha Damien pushed Seraphina aside with his hand, his breathing heavy as if he might explode in anger at any moment.
"Excuse me?" Seraphina sneered, her voice dripping with disbelief that Alpha Damien had dared to dismiss her in my presence.
"Give us a few moments, Seraphina," Alpha Damien ordered, not sparing her a second glance.
With a smirk, Seraphina walked away, leaving a venomous hiss hanging in the air.
"I thought you would beg for another chance, Catherine. But you're apparently too dense to consider it. Well, just so you know, my engagement to Seraphina begins tomorrow, and I'd love nothing more than to see you weep as I officially declare her my Luna," Alpha Damien declared, sliding an engagement letter into my view.
Alpha Damien was set to get officially engaged to Seraphina tomorrow, and she would be pronounced as the Luna of the pack. Alpha Damien must be delusional to believe he had the most charming smile and face. Little did he know, he had yet to witness the Lycan King's presence. He was no match for the Lycan King, and I had decided to accept the Lycan King as my second chance mate, letting go of this bully who had caused me so much pain.
"I will never beg for your love, Alpha Damien. I have accepted your rejection, and I'll never accept you again," I shouted defiantly.
"Do you realize how many she-wolves would do anything to be with me?" Alpha Damien retorted as he closed the distance between us. I began to retreat, but the wall stopped me, leaving me trapped as he advanced until we were nearly nose to nose.
"You sicken me, Alpha Damien. I despise you," I hissed through gritted teeth.
Alpha Damien sneered, a disdainful expression on his face, and replied with a wicked smirk, "Oh, but you do like me, Catherine. You were practically seething with jealousy when you saw me with Seraphina yesterday. You were on the brink of madness."
He pinned my neck against the wall with his hand, his fingers squeezing the marked area, causing me pain. His eyes turned sour as he traced the mark with his fingers and then sniffed it.
"Catherine, have you been marked?" Alpha Damien asked, his breath heavy as if he might collapse any moment.
"Indeed, I have been claimed by another wolf," I retorted, a triumphant smile playing on my lips. But I refrained from revealing that it was the Lycan King who had marked me.
"How dare you?" Alpha Damien slapped me so hard that my world spun for a moment. Blood began to trickle from my nose, and I collapsed to my knees, tears streaming down my face. If I had the strength, I would have fought back against Alpha Damien, but he was far too powerful for me to contend with in my wolf form.
Alpha Damien unleashed his fury upon the room, kicking tables and chairs, throwing objects in a fit of rage. I huddled on the floor, shielding my head with my hands to protect myself from the flying debris, trembling in fear.
"Who marked you? Who is this bastard?" Alpha Damien demanded, striding toward me and yanking me up by my hair.
"Why do you care? I despise you, Alpha Damien!" I screamed, blood still flowing from my nose.
"I swear by the Moon Goddess, if you utter another word, I'll strangle you," Alpha Damien threatened with his Alpha voice, his neck veins pulsating with fury.
"Then kill me, Alpha Damien. I'm prepared to die, but I hate you!" I yelled, spitting blood onto his face. He wiped it away, clenched his fist, and gnashed his teeth, ready to unleash his wrath upon me.
