SEVEN: CATHERINE’S POV.
I walked behind the Lycan king slowly, as he led the way to his mother’s room.
I had finally agreed to see his mum, but not because I wanted to prove that I was his mate—instead, I wanted to see her after I heard that she was sick.
Suddenly, the Lycan King halted in front of a room with a sad face, and it was then I realized how difficult it was for him to live knowing his mum was dying slowly.
That was when I managed to realize why he wanted his mate by his side as soon as possible.
Taking slow strides towards him, I patted his back slowly— and when he looked up, I flashed him a beautiful smile—before signaling him to open the door.
He opened the door, and walked slowly towards the frail looking figure on the bed—while I walked slowly behind him.
My heartbeat increased as I took more strides towards the figure on the bed, and the moment I saw the woman on the bed—my heart softened.
“Mother,” The Lycan said with a light smile, and the woman opened her eyes slowly—a crumpled smile forming on her face.
It seemed like she recognized the voice of her son—so she just wanted to see him—that was why she tried hard to look at him.
“You’re here,” She forced out a smile, before coughing out slightly.
“Yes mum, I’m here,” The Lycan king smiled and knelt beside her bed, before trailing his fingers down her cheeks.
“I missed you,” He smiled, making the woman chuckle slightly—before turning her head in my direction.
“I missed you too,” She said, still staring at me, “But who did you bring here,” She said, her eyes scanning me from head to toe.
“That’s my mate, Catherine,” He said, and I felt a wave of nervousness rush through me—
What if she doesn’t like me?
She has the right to tell him not to marry me, but I was anxious!
I just hoped she liked me...
“Your mate?” She asked surprisingly, like she found it difficult to believe him.
“Yes mother,” He said excitedly, and a bright smile appeared on her lips.
“Finally,” She smiled and beckoned on me to come which o did instantly.
“You look beautiful,” She complimented me, before holding my hands tightly.
Then her eyes caught eyes of my stomach, then she stared at it deeply—confusing me the more.
She spent minutes staring at my stomach, before raising her hands to touch my stomach.
“Wow,” She smiled, rubbing my tummy slightly.
I was confused at what was happening, and I glanced at the Lycan King just to see him staring at me—with shock evident on his face.
“What’s happening?” He asked his mother, but she turned around to face him with a smile.
“So you were so quick to be a father?” She asked weakly, but still—it was evident that she was happy.
“Father??” I couldn’t believe my ears, as I stared at her with widened eyes.
“Does this mean....” I trailed off, and glanced at him with creased brows.
“I’m pregnant?” I asked her, and she nodded smilingly.
I just couldn’t believe what this woman was saying—
How could I be pregnant and not know?
I was confused, but discarded the thoughts knowing fully well that I couldn’t be pregnant—
“How wouldn’t I know that I was pregnant?” I thought, but I knew deep down that I was scared.
It could be true, remembering the one night stand I had with the Lycan King.
The look on the Lycan’s face was that of surprise and awe and not that of doubt—but what bothered me was how I didn’t know, and heard it from a stranger.
“Mother, please I’ll be back—” The Lycan King said, and the smile disappeared from his mother’s face.
“You’re leaving so soon?” She asked with a sad look, and he sighed.
“I need to have a word with her,” He said, pointing at me—
“It’s okay,” She said, and adjusted herself on the bed with a smile on her face—when the Lycan king pulled me out of the room slowly.
We haven’t gone too far from the room when he released me, and a wide smile appeared on his face.
“I can’t believe I’m going to be a father,” He growled excitedly and leaned forward to touch my stomach.
“Don’t tell me you believe what she said?” I asked with shock, at least—I wasn’t expecting him to believe something like that.
“My mum is also a seer, so I believe what she said,”’He said and my eyes widened.
“So I’m really pregnant?” I said and rubbed my stomach absentmindedly making him chuckle.
“Yes,” He smiled, and pulled me in a tight hug.
“I’m so excited to hear this news—”
“Will you finally accept me?” He asked, and I creased my brows.
I never knew that I was to accept him specially, and I frowned my face slightly.
“I’ve been waiting for you to finally accept me,” He said and sighed deeply, “At times, the fear of you rejecting me would just cross my mind—and it’s capable of instilling fear in me,” He said, and I felt my heart soften a little bit.
“He was scared of losing me,” I thought and faced him.
“Please even if it means you just accepting me as the child’s father now, but I promise you that I’ll make you fall in love with me—and I’ll allow you take your time,” He said sadly and made to leave when I pulled him backwards—engulfing him in a tight hug.
“Don’t leave please,” I muttered as tears formed on my eyes.
It was the first time that I felt this loved, and I couldn’t even let him go!
The first person that showed me love—
The only person that brought me out of where I was being mistreated just to treat me right!
I couldn’t just let him go that way, not even in my dreams.
