“He’s looking pretty busy right now,” said Beatrice slowly. Meadow’s husband, the Dappled Hills police chief, was indeed looking busy. He was speaking with other police officers that Beatrice suspected were from the state police. He must have felt their eyes on him because he glanced to the side and spotted them. He appeared to grimace when he saw Meadow’s face. Meadow opened the van’s door to hop out and Ramsay quickly held up a finger to ask for a moment.
