đș Chapter 2 â The Alphaâs Eyes
The forest felt alive.
Every crunch beneath Amaraâs boots echoed louder than it should have. The air was thick with tensionâlike the woods were holding their breath, waiting.
Kaden walked silently beside her, his long strides effortless. His presence was magnetic but suffocating, like standing too close to a thunderstorm.
âYou didnât answer me,â she finally said, brushing a branch out of her way. âWhy bring me here? What do you want from me?â
He stopped. So sudden that she nearly walked into him.
âI want to protect whatâs mine.â
âIâm not yours,â she snapped.
His head turned, silver eyes glowing faintly. âThat mark on your neck says otherwise.â
Amaraâs fingers went to the crescent-shaped birthmark on her skin. It tingled whenever he was nearâlike it was alive.
âIt doesnât mean anything,â she whispered.
He didnât reply. Instead, he looked up at the moon peeking through the trees, its light illuminating his sharp features.
âThis placeâmy packâisnât safe right now,â he said. âSomeoneâs hunting hybrids. Rogues. If they find youââ
âI can handle myself.â
âYou have no idea what you are yet, Amara.â
His voice was low, almost sad.
Amara crossed her arms. âThen tell me. Stop being cryptic.â
He turned fully to her. âYouâre a bloodline hybrid. Part human. Part wolf. But not just any wolfâyour mother was Nightborn. You were never supposed to exist.â
Amaraâs breath caught.
She remembered her motherâs warnings. The secrecy. The constant moving.
âWhy now?â she asked. âWhy come for me after all these years?â
He hesitated. Then stepped closer.
âBecause I felt the bond awaken,â he said. âAnd if I could feel it, others can too.â
Amaraâs heartbeat pounded. Not just from fear. From something deeper. Wilder.
Kadenâs voice dropped to a whisper.
âYouâre mine, Amara. But itâs not a claim. Itâs a curse. One that may cost us both everything.â
Then a howl tore through the nightâpiercing, close, and furious.
Kadenâs eyes narrowed.
âThey found you.â
