The cabin was hidden deep in the woods, shielded by pine and silence. Kaden had carried her there after the fight, refusing to leave her side even as blood stained his skin.

Now, hours later, Amara sat wrapped in a blanket by the fire, her pulse still racing—not from fear, but from him.

Kaden stood by the window, shirtless, bruised, and beautiful. Moonlight kissed the curve of his back and caught the claw marks on his shoulder.

She couldn’t look away.

“You didn’t have to fight them alone,” she said softly.

He turned, his silver eyes flickering in the firelight. “I wasn’t going to let them touch you.”

Her heart skipped. “Why do you care so much?”

He took a slow step toward her. Then another. “Because I’ve felt you—your presence, your pain, your pull—long before I ever saw you.”

She swallowed. “This bond thing… it’s real, isn’t it?”

“It is,” he murmured, kneeling in front of her. “But it’s not just instinct, Amara. It’s you. The way you talk back. The way you fight. The fire in your eyes…”

His fingers brushed her cheek. “I care because I want to. Not because I’m forced to.”

She leaned into his touch, breath hitching. “You’re not what I expected.”

“And you’re everything I never let myself hope for.”

Their lips were inches apart now, heat sparking in the small space between them.

“I don’t know what’s happening to me,” she whispered. “I’m scared.”

Kaden’s hand slid to the back of her neck, gentle but firm.

“Then let me be the one who stays,” he said. “Let me protect you, even when you don’t think you need it.”

Amara’s heart fluttered—and this time, she didn’t pull away.

She kissed him.

It was slow at first, hesitant… then deeper, hungrier. His hand tightened in her hair, hers clutching his arm like he was the only steady thing in the world.

For that moment, the war outside didn’t exist.

There was only her.

There was only him.

And the bond that wrapped them both in silver fire.
