- Harrison’s P.O.V. -
Walking into the room, my ears were filled with the steady beating sound from the heart monitor. It was comforting to see her stable and resting. From what little Emmett had told me I was expecting the worst.
“Hello Your Majesty.” The doctor bowed his head as he closed the door behind him. “I had a feeling you might be here.”
He walked over and examined the drip line that ran to Andy’s vein and the notes that, I guessing, previous nurses had left on the clipboard at the end of the bed.
“Do we know what happened to her?” I asked as I glanced over to see Andy’s chest lightly rising and falling with each breath.
“Well, after I got her sedated I was able to run some test, but nothing can back out of the ordinary.” He too shifted his eyes over to Andy. “I won’t know more until she wakes up.”
I ran my hand over the back of my neck, trying to overcome this feeling of uselessness. “How long do you think that will take?”
“The sedative should be wearing off here in a couple hours. You’re more than welcome to stay or I can let you know when she wakes up.”
“Thank you doctor.” I truly was grateful that he was able to help her. Even though I didn’t want her as my mate, I still didn’t want to see her in any pain. “Please inform me when she wakes up. I’ll be in my office.”
“Of course Your Majesty.” He again bowed his head as I gave a final look over to Andy before heading back out the door.
Sitting down into my office chair, I racked my hands over my face in frustration. I have no idea where Steph went. I heard Andy was hurt and bolted out of my office as fast as possible. I don’t know how I can keep this bond intact and not have the pull to be with her.
I heard my office door open and closed with a quick force. I was expecting to turn and see Steph standing back in front of me but instead saw Emmett, and he looked pissed.
“What the f**k is wrong with you?” He growled out to me. I leaped from my chair to show the full enormity of my stature standing before him.
“Remember who you’re talking to.” I warned.
“I don’t give a s**t if you’re the king or not. I’m your best friend and you need to hear this.” I gave him a growling warning, that he’s treading on thin ice. “It was kind of hard to miss Stephanie completely naked earlier. I know you were having s*x with her, man.”
My temper was starting to rise. “I don’t see how any of that is your business, beta.”
Emmett took a few steps closer to me. If he wasn’t reprimanding me, I would be impressed by his assertiveness.
“Normally, you’re right. It’s none of my business who you take to your bed, or in this case desk.” He was about get my wrath at this rate. “But it is one of the beta’s jobs to protect the Luna. Ever since you found Andy, she has been the Luna. Regardless if you refuse to give her the title.”
“What are you getting at Emmett!” I was officially at my wits end. He’s lucky he’s my best friend because otherwise I’m ready to kill him.
“What happened to Andy is because you were f*****g Stephanie! The mate bond damn near kills you if the other is unfaithful.” He hollered out at me.
What the hell? Why didn’t I know this?
Because wolves don’t reject their mates! Hercules growled, he was equally as mad at me.
“If you keep up the relationship with Stephanie and don’t reject Andy, you’ll kill her and then you’ll go mad from the loss of your mate.”
His word rang in my ears. I paced back and forth behind my desk. Trying to think of anyway for me to get out of this. I can’t reject her; having a mate gives too much strength. Never have s*x again; no, that’s not even physically possible and I’m sure Andy would not be ok with s*x but no strings attached. None of these answers sounded like a liable solution.
A knock on the door broke me out of my thoughts. “Come in.”
Mrs. Whelan had popped in through the door. “Excuse the interruption Your Majesty. The doctor wanted me to inform you that Miss Andy is beginning to wake up from the sedative.”
“Thank you, Mrs. Whelan. We’ll be there shortly.” She gave a low curtsy before exiting the room.
Emmett quickly made eye contact with me. “You better get it together before you seriously hurt this girl.” And with that final warning he left my office.
I stood there for a minute, dumbfounded at the idea that what I had done earlier had caused Andy so much pain that she needed to go to the clinic. I wasn’t sure what I was going to have to do, but I knew, truly, that I never wanted to see her like that again. This mate bond might truly be the end of me one way or another.
Again, a knock came at the door. I’m beginning to believe if I put in a revolving door it might be easier.
“Come in.” I say while rubbing aggressively at my forehead with my fingers.
“Emmett sure seemed like he had his panties in a wad.” Stephanie’s voice carried over to me causing me to cringe.
She tried to give she seductive look again while walking towards me. Her heels clicking across the wood floor with each step. Her pencil skirt and blouse were both neatly back in place after our earlier romp.
“Just who I needed to see.” She smiled at my words, but I knew she wouldn’t be smiling for long. “We need to talk.”
Those four simple words alone had made the smile fall from her face. I had a feeling she knows what is coming.
“Steph, we need to breakup.” Her eyes turn black as night.
“You’re kidding, right?” She was enraged. She bared her canines as her nails began to elongate from her nail beds.
“Get your wolf under control. You know that I found my mate and can no longer keep this going.” I tried to stay calm in my words to her.
“But it was fine for you to screw me less than an hour ago!”
“That was a mistake and never should have happened. Now, I need to go see my mate.” I walked past her without another word. I need to get to Andy.
“This isn’t the last of this, Harrison” she threatened in a deep growling voice.
As I closed the door behind me, I knew she would keep true to her threat. This wouldn’t be the last of this.
