-Harrison’s P.O.V.-
“Outside.” I growled at her. This was the last thing I needed. I wasn’t looking for a mate and neither do I need one.
I pushed open the door with a tremendous amount of force. I have got to reel it in some, I nearly broke the glass that was in the doors. The fresh crisp air filled my lungs with a deep breath, helping me to calm down. Her sweet gardenia scent filled my senses the second I walked into the hall.
I turned as I reached the patio railing to see my mate looking down at the ground. Her dark brown hair almost looked black in the evening sky, making her blue eyes sparkle like sapphires. She is the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Her delicate body keeps enticing me to pull her into my arms.
I growl, getting mad at myself for feeling the pull of the mate bond. She takes a step back at the sound of my frustration.
“What is your name?” I asked, breaking the silence.
“Andy.” Her voice is soft and elegant.
“Andy?” It wasn’t a common name for a female werewolf.
“Andrea, but I’ve always gone by Andy.” I could get lost in the melodiousness of when she talks.
“Well, Andy, I’m Harrison.” I took a step towards her. My body and wolf is seriously fighting my mind.
Go to our Mate. Take her in your arms.
Don’t start, Hercules. You know we’re not taking a mate.
That’s what you say. I say we need our mate. She will make us stronger.
“There you are, King Harrison.” The most nasally, whiny voice I’ve ever heard pierced through my thought. “You owe me a birthday dance.” A girl in a pink dress came bouncing up to me and grabbed hold of my arm.
“Um, right.” I said as I looked down at her to see the scowl she was giving my mate. She started to pull on my arm to lead me back into the hall. I didn’t want to leave my mate but it would be rude to deny the person the party was for a dance.
“I’ll be back, Andy.” I looked back over to my mate, to see she had stepped back away.
“Oh, you don’t have to talk to her. She’s no one special.” I almost let a growl escape my mouth. Even though I didn’t want a mate I couldn’t help but feel protective of her already.
The room was filled with all different pairs that were already dancing around on the floor. Taylor flashed a cheesy smile at me as she grabbed ahold of my hand. I reluctantly placed my hand on her waist as she placed her other hand on my shoulder.
The music started and we started together along with the rhythm, but it didn’t feel right. She wouldn’t let me naturally lead her around the dance floor. It felt very forced. I looked over Taylor’s shoulder to see Andy was watching us dance and my heart sank.
I could see a single tear run down her cheek. We had barely met each other and the bond was already that strong. It was hurting her to see me dancing with another woman. How was I going to bring myself to reject her?
Hercules growled in my head. He didn’t like when I brought up the idea of rejecting Andy, but I didn’t need someone to be a liability that could be used against me. A king naturally has enemies and If anyone got ahold of Andy. Just the thought was making me seething mad.
By time the song finished I was so lost in my thoughts I just continued to hold onto Taylor. She leaned in, laying her head upon my chest. The sensation had me step backwards. I believe she got the wrong idea.
“King Harrison, you’re an incredible dancer.” Taylor looked up with her pounds on makeup on her face. It made me question what she really looked like under all that. Andy looked so natural and beautiful, I couldn’t even tell if she had makeup on.
“Thank you,” I said before turning around to go look for my mate.
Taylor’s hand went right to my shoulder, “don’t you want another dance?” She exaggerated the flutter of her eyelashes.
“Maybe later.” I didn’t want to seem rude, but the last thing I wanted to do was dance with her again.
Go find our Mate. You made her cry.
You danced with Taylor, too.
It wasn’t my choice.
I internally roll my eyes at Hercules. I look around the room to see if I can spot Andy. I really need to talk to her, maybe she doesn’t want a mate also. The thought of her not wanting to be with me cause a pain in my heart. My body yearned for her.
“Alpha, is everything alright?” My beta, Emmett, had walked up with concern on his face. I guess he could tell something was off. I’m not surprised since Emmett and I had grown up together. His father was my father’s beta, so it was natural he would become mine.
“My mate is here.” His eyes opened wide in surprise. He already knows my stance on having a mate and that I have been planning to reject her if I ever found her.
“Have you seen her yet?” He started to look around him like he was going to feel our bond, which would never happen.
“Yes, her name is Andy, but I can’t find her, now.” I could still catch her scent every now and then, but it was quickly fading.
“Why did you let her out of your sight?”
“I wasn’t trying to. Taylor insisted on a dance and I lost sight of her then.” Emmett looked like he was almost mad at me, but I know it’s because he isn’t a fan of Taylor either.
Emmett and I spent the rest of the evening trying to see if we could find Andy anywhere. I looked around the dance floor a few times; nothing. We went around the food tables; nothing. I decided to go back out to the patio; nothing. No Andy.
Without any luck, Emmett and I were forced to call it a night. Most of the guest had gone to their rooms earlier on in the evening. It was mainly Taylor and her friends that were left in the party area.
Going up the stairs I could start to smell that amazing gardenia scent again. She was close. Maybe she was also a guest that was staying here at the pack house. I followed the scent until it led me to another staircase, and another, and another. Where could she possibly be?
I came up the final set of stairs to a worn wooden door. Her scent was intoxicating. I slowly opened the small door and caught completely off guide. There on the floor was my mate sleeping on a broken mattress. She was peacefully sleep despite it being especially cold up here and her blanket looked to be a little more than a rag with holes.
My heart broke. I had to save her from this. This was not the life that she was meant to live and even if she wasn’t going to be my mate, I could at least give her a better life.
I mind linked over Emmett to tell him that I had found Andy and she would be coming back with us when we are to leave here tomorrow. I asked him to also reach out to our housekeeper, Mrs. Whelan, and have her get the room next to mine set up for Andy. She was going to need everything when she got there and I knew Mrs. Whelan could handle it.
I slowly closed the door to her room, if you can even call it that, and descended down to my room. I would be having a word with her Alpha before we leave here tomorrow and it won’t be pleasant.
