Chapter 4 - The Day After

1224 Words
-Andy’s P.O.V.- The morning after the party meant a laundry list of things that I was going to have to do. I had cleared away all the remaining glasses and plates before I started washing all of the tables and chairs linens and was taking the eighth trash bag to the back door. Glitter and streamers filled my dust pan as I continued to sweep up the floor and dump it into a trash can I rolled around with me. I jumped when I heard a scream come from the other side of the pack house. I have heard that scream before and recognized it as Taylor’s. “Where is she?” Taylor yelled as she walked towards the hall. Once she had her eyes on me she was racing over to me. I cannot imagine what I had done to upset her now. She was about two steps away from me when she raised her hand to strike me. “Taylor stop!” I was shocked to hear the voice of my father. He usually would just turn away from when Taylor or her mother would go to hit me. I looked up where his voice had carried from to see my father standing next to Harrison and another man. I’m guessing since Harrison is an alpha that he must be his beta. I couldn’t help the smile that spread across my face when I looked over at my mate. I still wasn’t sure where the whole mate thing stands with us but I couldn’t deny the feelings I already had for him. “So it’s true.” Taylor practically spit on me. “Why would you choose her?” She turned back towards the men, screaming at them as she pointed to me. She was livid that Harrison and I are mates. I guess she could tell from the way that I was acting last night. Maybe she thought her endless flirting and dance moves were going to win him over and he would pick her as his chosen mate? She turned back, growling at me “Just because you’re his mate doesn’t mean you’re safe. I will kill you for this.” She stomped off flipping her hair as she went. “Hope to see you again soon.” She stopped to flirtatiously say before making her way to the door. She gave me one final glare before leaving, fully out of sit. Harrison walked towards me and I couldn’t help but be hopeful from what Taylor had said. Maybe Harrison wasn’t going to reject me and I was just overthinking things. I looked up at him with a smile, but he didn’t match my enthusiasm. Maybe I shouldn’t be hopeful. “Andy, I need you to go collect your things. You will be leaving with us. You have an hour.” He was quite serious and to the point. I was confused, he made it feel like he wasn’t happy about me being his mate, but he wants me to leave with him. “Why would I leave with you if you haven’t accepted me as your mate?” For a second it looked like my question might have hurt him. I wasn’t going to go with him if he was just going to turn around and reject me. “He is your mate and you will go with him.” I could feel my father pushing his alpha aura upon me. He knew that I couldn’t go against my alpha’s command. I knew that in truth he was more ready to get rid of me. I bowed my head down in submission to his command and begin to head to go upstairs. Harrison turned to me quickly, grabbing ahold of my wrist, “Andy, I don’t want to force you to come with me. Only if you want to.” “I want to go with you.” I say, nodding my head before turning back around. It wasn’t a complete lie. I did want to be with my mate and getting away from this family was definitely a bonus. No matter the outcome, I will make the best of it. When I got to my room, I noticed a suitcase was sitting on my mattress waiting for me. I recognized it as a piece of luggage from one of my stepmother’s sets, it was a bit beaten up, but at least I didn’t have to walk out with the items clutched in my hands. I hastily went around my small attic space collecting any items that were important to me. I folded up my mom’s dress, placing it careful in the suitcase. At the very bottom of the trunk I pulled back a false bottom a had hidden my mom’s jewelry pieces. After Taylor threatened to take them from me because she liked that, I never wore them again. I through some of my worn out clothes into the suitcase as well. Looking around the room, I couldn’t imagine anything else that I would want to take with me. I didn’t even turn to look at the room behind me as I grabbed the suitcase and closed the door behind me. There is anything about this place that I’ll miss. Harrison and his beta were already waiting for me down in the foyer. I could Harrison was getting tired of waiting on me by the way he paced back and forth. Taylor and her mom were both standing off to the side with their arms crossed and scowls on their faces. My father was no where to be found. I wasn’t too surprised. I remind him too much of my mom and having to say goodbye to ‘her’ again would probably do him in. Harrison grabbed my bag from me, “Do you need Emmett to grab your other bags?” The man next to him started to walk towards the stairs. So, that’s his name, Emmett. “No,” I responded. “That’s all my things.” Harrison dropped his eyes to my one small bag and just nodded his head. “Thank you ladies,” Harrison turn towards Taylor and her mom. “It’s been a pleasure.” He then turned to the front door and began to walk out. I couldn’t refrain my eyes from glancing over to Taylor, malice burning in her eyes as she stared back. “I will get you for this.” She threatened so low, I almost missed it. “After you.” Emmett came up behind me and gestured to the door before another word could be said. The beautiful sun was on full display this late morning with not a cloud in the sky. Harrison was already making his way around the black SUV, after closing the trunk from putting my bag in, to the driver side to get in. Emmett opened the front passenger door, holding it open for me to get in. He then climbed into the backseat of the SUV. Only seconds later, the engine roared to life and we were pulling away from the only home I’ve even known. I began to imagine what my new home would look like. Would I like it there? Would I be welcomed? But the main question still on my mind was will my mate accept me?
