The Aftermath-Allen

As soon as my mate and King Ezuna were out of hearing range, my king let me know how he feels about what happened. To say he was not happy with me was an understatement.

“Have you completely lost your mind?”

“I don’t know what happened my king,” I answered. “I was so excited about finally meeting my mate, I just wanted to take her back to the royal packhouse and get her away from all of these unmated males.”

“Look I get that you were anxious to get your mate, but you were outright rude and nearly kidn*pped the princess,” He then looks at Justice. “and Beta Justice, why didn’t you stop him? You are supposed to be the voice of reason when he is hot head!”

“I tried my king,” Justice explains to my king that he tried to stop me, but I ignored him and got angry.

“I got angry because she was looking at you instead of paying attention to me,” I say with a huff.

“She was mind linking me. That’s why she was looking at me. I guess she was establishing the connection.”

“What the hell do you mean she was mind linking you. She’s not in our pack. Hell, She’s not even from our continent.  I call BS.” I say.

“I guess you really don’t know much about your mate, alpha. She is a mythical healer, so yes she can mind link any shifter she can connect with. So yes she mind linked me and asked me to stop you before you went too far. I  tried, but you would not listen.”

“Allen Justice is right. Iyani is a very special and proud wolf. I don’t know how you are going to be able to make it up to her. To put it bluntly, you f****d up royally. I am very disappointed with you. I would expect  that behavior from a lesser alpha, but not my top alpha.”

“I am sorry my king. I just wanted her so badly and then I got jealous and possessive when she started looking at Justice  Zor got angry and wanted to drag her away.”

“That is no excuse for threatening to take a shewolf against her will and locking her up in your dungeon.  What were you thinking? That is not the way to build a relationship with anyone. You definitely can’t approach the princess like that, but since she put you on your ass, I guess you figured that part out.”

“Well, I didn’t know she was the princess.  I thought she was a regular wolf who was resisting me. An alpha.”

“That’s wrong on so many levels,” Justice says. “Every wolf, no matter their station deserves respect and decency. What would make you think that any self-respecting shewolf would respond to the way you approached your mate. It’s like you loss all your cool points in one blow. No game at all. I’ve seen you act smoother with the pack sluts than you did with your mate.”

“Ok Justice, I get it. My game was weak. We don’t have to dwell on that. What do I do now to get my mate to accept me? There is nothing I can offer her that she does not already have or can get for herself. How can I even begin to negotiate with her when she is in a better position than I am?”

I look at my king and my beta and they are both shaking their heads at me. I’m now trying to figure out what I did wrong again. I just want the upper hand in trying to acquire my mate.

“Dummy, your whole way of thinking is wrong. Our mate is not a parcel of land you can acquire. She is a living breathing person with her own mind and desires. We will never win her with your way of thinking. Oh, goddess, why di you give me such a dumb human?” My wolf says and goes back into a corner of my mind and rolls himself into a ball. It's like he is giving up on winning our mate. He looks so sad and lost. I have to figure this out. I really don’t want her to reject me. I look at my two friends. I really need them to help me.

“Zor is upset with me. He said I will never win our mate with my thinking.”

“Zor is absolutely right. You won’t win any person with your way of thinking. I think you have been so focused on being an alpha and enlarging the kingdom that you forgot how to interact normally with people. Maybe some of this is my fault because I relied on you a lot although you have your own pack, you handle a lot of negotiation for the kingdom.” My king said.

“King Jesses is right, you have been in negotiator mode for a while now and while that works when conducting business, it does not work in intimate relationships. The first thing you need to do is realize that you are building a relationship, not negotiating an alliance. Second, you need to get to know your mate and let her see the real you. The male, not the alpha.” Justice says.

“How can I do that when I’m not able to contact her at all?”

“I’ll take care of that. You just focus on getting your stuff together and I will work with my buddy Enzuma to get her to agree to see you. I have known her since she was a pup. She may be a hardcore warrior, but she is fair and believes in the mate bond. Just don’t mess it up when you get a second chance. That second chance may be all you will get. I suggest you take the next couple of days and think about how you will Whoo her as the humans say. Maybe you should watch a couple of romantic movies and come up with some ideas. At this point, anything is better than what you did.” King Jesse says.

I know he is right. All I can do is thank him for trying to help me, but ultimately it will be up to me to prove myself and show her that I am not as stuck in the ice age as I appeared to be. The truth is, I do respect all wolves, no matter what station they are in. I changed laws in my pack when I became alpha to make sure that all wolves are treated fairly. We have zero-tolerance for bullying. Our Omegas are treated fairly and are given opportunities to train and change their station in life. This is still new to my pack, although it has been several years, not many Omegas have taken more than the basic self-defense training. Maybe my mate can come up with some ideas of how to motivate my pack members to try different training. I must say, thinking about making changes and improvements with my mate makes me feel better.

Justice and I say good night to King Jesse and head back to our pack. We are not that far away. Our pack actually borders the Royal pack. We are less than an hour’s drive away. We probably could run it in less than 30 minutes in wolf form, but we drove with our warriors. Our warriors load up in the SUVS and we all head out. I heard a couple of them mention that they think they may have smelled their mate briefly, but the smell was faint and disappeared quickly. That’s strange. I have heard stories of some wolves being able to hide their scents, but those are usually gifted wolves or very well-trained wolves. Now that I think about it, when I started acting like an ass, I could not smell my mate's scent anymore. She must have to hide it from me. So either she hid the scent of her warriors or they all know how to hide their own scents. I have heard that they are called the Silent and Deadly Force. I guess you would need to be able to hide your scent to stealthily walk up on a wolf. All wolves have a highly sensitive sense of smell and hearing. Well actually, all of our senses are enhanced, so it takes a lot to catch any of us unaware. The fact that they are known for doing just that is impressive. I would love for the person that trained them to train my warriors. I wonder if my mate will be willing to share her trainer with me, after all, this will be her pack as well and it will also fall on my warriors to protect their Luna. I wonder what her warriors will do when she takes on her role as my luna?

“Are you really that stupid? Even if she accepts you as her mate, do you think she will stop being the Crown Princess and further Queen of a whole continent? She will always have her warrior and will never be just your Luna. You need to see the big picture before you ruin everything.”

“I know that she is a princess Zor, but I am still the alpha of my pack and as my mate, she is the luna as well.”

“You are still not seeing the big picture. SHE IS GOING TO BE QUEEN. She is also an alpha of her own pack. SHE WILL NEVER JUST BE YOUR LUNA! And if you don’t recognize that, you will lose her. Stop trying to limit what she is and accept the fact that our mate’s role is bigger than ours.”

“Wait, if I am her mate, won't that make me the alpha of her pack and the king?”

“You REALLY are that dumb! I can’t be bothered to talk to you anymore. I’ll just leave you with this, Royalty rule, their mates do not.”

Zor closest our link and goes back in his corner. I guess he is worried that I will still mess things up with our mate. I guess he is right, I do need to change my way of thinking. Can my ego handle my mate being higher than me? I have been trained to be an alpha all my life. Leading and growing my pack has been my whole focus. How can I adjust my agenda to focus on my mate having an agenda other than my pack and supporting me?

“Justice, can I ask you a question?”

“Sure.”

“What do you think about your future Luna being a princess and future queen? I mean if she will rule a whole different continent. Do you think our pack will suffer since the Luna will not be able to focus on us?”

“Honestly, I am excited about having the Princess as our Luna. She has done so much for werewolf rights in her own continent and has the voice to make a difference in the Americas. No, we won't have a traditional Luna, but I don’t think that will take away from us. I think it will strengthen us and we will gain a lot more than what we lose. We have already gotten used to having a leader that travels a lot considering how much you travel for King Jesse, so this will be normal for us. And keep in mind, she comes with a team of wolves who have different skills and will be able to help us grow.”

“So, if she was your mate, you would be ok with her being the Crown Princess and alpha in her own right?”

“Of course I would and would do my best to support her and every way possible. She will have a lot on her plate. As her mate, you will be the one to make life easier for her and the one person or one of the few people she can relax with and just be herself.”

“I guess you are right. I guess I am worried about my place in her life.”

“No alpha, you are worried about your ego and dealing with a mate who has a higher rank than you do but remember, mates are equal. You may not be a royal, but you are the mate of a royal, and your pups will all be royals, so you should not feel threatened.”

“Thanks, Justice, I guess I didn’t think about it like that. This whole thing will take a lot of getting used to. This is not at all what I  was expecting. I thought my mate would be an alpha or beta’s daughter who  was trained to be a luna of a pack, not a princess who was trained to rule a kingdom.”

We arrive back at our packhouse. I leave the warriors to put all the vehicles up and start heading inside to relax before going to bed. The mated warriors are greeted by their mates. I can hear the discussion about me meeting my mate and how it did not go so well. There is laughter about how easily I and my warriors were put down. Most of the wolves think the warriors are exaggerating. I just smile and keep walking inside. I will never admit out loud that my mate put me on my butt in less than 30 seconds. Nope. I’m just going to keep walking and pretend that I didn’t hear the conversations around me.

“What’s this I hear about you finding your mate?” Diana screeches at me as soon as I get inside.

“Mind who you are talking to. I do not owe you an explanation, but yes I did.”

“She will never be luna. That position is mine. You are mine!” She yells.

“Diana, I was never yours. You were just someone who I got relief from every now and then. We were never in a relationship. You will never be my luna even if I did not meet my mate.”

Diana looked at me shocked and hurt.

“But that’s not what you said when we were in bed together.”

“I didn’t say much when we were in bed together. I was trying to find a release. You were the one who did all of the talking. Sometimes I grunted in response to something you said, but never much paid attention to you. You were a means to an end. I told you from the beginning that I was not interested in a relationship with you. I also told you if you ever became clingy or started expecting more from me, our arrangement would end. So aside from the fact that I found my mate, this attitude of yours right now means that we are over. Feel free to leave my presence, better still, you can go back to your pack.”

“Wait until I tell my father about how you are treating me. I am an alpha’s daughter. I demand respect.”

“Respect, you do not respect yourself. You know I did not love you or wanted to be in a relationship with you from the beginning, yet you continued to come here and sleep with me. Have I ever come to you? Have I ever called you? Hell, have I ever even acknowledged you outside of the bedroom? No, I have not. You are the one who thought you would become luna of a pack by sleeping with different alphas.”

She looked surprised when I mention other alphas. Does she really think I didn’t know about the other alphas she was sleeping with? One, alphas talk, and two, she never waits long enough for the scent of the other males to fade before she visits the next male. I don’t know why she is trying to cling to me.

“I don’t know what you mean by other alphas. I love you and I will never give up on us. I don’t care if she is your supposed mate. I am your chosen mate and I will have you.”

“You know exactly what I mean. Do you think I don’t know that you were with Alpha Jenkins before you came to my pack? You still had his scent on you when we sleep together last week. Yes, I smelled him on you, but since you mean nothing to me, I did not care. The fact that I did not care that you were with another male should tell you that I don’t want you. So please stop this foolishness.”

“I don’t care what you say. I will be your Luna.”

“Let me be clear, you are nothing to me. My mate is everything to me and if you cannot accept that, I will bar you from visiting my pack. Now you have about five seconds to get out of my sight before I have my warriors drag you to my border and leave you there, Don’t bother threatening me with your father I will be calling him tonight and letting him know about your behavior and clearing up any lies you have told him about our relationship. In fact, I’m going to conference the four alphas that I know you have been sleeping with so we all can let your father know exactly what you have been doing. Now get out!”

Diana ran out of the room crying. I did not mean to do that in front of my pack members, but she pissed me off talking about she will be the Luna of my pack. Like I would ever choose anyone other than my fated mate to be my luna.

“That was a little harsh,” Justice said. “I warned you about sleeping with her or any other shewolf that is not your mate. This is going to be bad. She is delusional and I’m sure you have not heard the last of her. I hope you can get her under control before your mate comes to our pack. No shewolf would accept that kind of behavior.”

“I know Justice. I don’t know what I was thinking. I wish I had waited for my mate like you did. Hopefully, she won’t hold that against me. We both have a past.”

“How would you feel if she is not a virgin?”

“I would kill any man who ever touched her!”

“But you expect her to be ok with your past. You not only didn’t wait for her, but you had an ongoing intimate relationship with another shewolf who is determined to be your Luna. How do you think that will go over with anyone? The best you can do is hope that she never finds out or that she has gotten to know you a little before she finds out. This is just one more nail in your coffin. You should send Diana away as soon as possible. You don’t know how long it will take for King Jesse to talk your mate into giving you a second chance. Don’t let it get ruined before it happens.”

“You are right. I will call her father tonight and have him come get her in the nest 24 to 48 hours. Either he or her older brother should be here for the alpha summit anyway.”

“Let's just hope it is soon enough,” Justice says as he walks upstairs.

I really do hope it is soon enough. I cannot afford for something else to happen. I want my mate to get to see something good about me. I admit that I messed up by sleeping with Diana more than once and especially letting her come to my pack like we were in a relationship. I guess I thought she knew what time it was since she was sleeping with others and we never said anything about being exclusive.

The call to Diana’s father went better than expected. He knew about his daughter's behavior and was not pleased with her at all. Her older brother will be here to get her in two days. Her father, Alpha Richard told me she was just barred from Alpha Eric’s pack for the same reason. He found his mate and Diana attacked her after Alpha Eric announced her to the pack. Diana somehow heard about it and showed up uninvited to the pack. Since she was a frequent visitor to the pack, the patrol let her in and she went straight for the new luna and tried to challenge her. Alpha Eric intervene and kicked her out. She cannot ever come back to his pack and if she does, she will be killed on site. Alpha Richard and I talked about getting some type of counseling for her. Her behavior is not normal. Alpha Richard agreed. Alpha Richard and I ended our call with me agreeing to let her stay here until her brother comes to get her to ensure that her family will be able to get her the help she obviously needs. I linked Justice to tell him about the conversation with Alpha Richard. Justice suggested that I have a couple of warriors following her while she is here to keep her out of trouble and make sure that she does not leave before her brother gets her. Justice suggested and I agree that I need to keep her away from the packhouse. She has been staying with a distant cousin, so she can stay there. After ending my link with Justice, I link two warriors and let them know what I need them to do. I also instruct them to put a team together so that someone is watching her 24/7 for the next 2 days. I then link her relatives and let them know that they need to keep her there and away from the packhouse. They were not thrilled to be forced to be in her presence for an extended period of time. Although they are related, they are not alpha blood and Diana does not let them forget it. Apparently, Diana expects others to serve her who she considers under her. That is not how my pack is run. I tell them that they do not have to go out of their way for her. I just don’t want her anywhere near me or the packhouse. I end my conversation with them and go to bed feeling like I have everything in order.
