Allen

Allen and his Beta, Justice, prepared to leave for the market square of the royal pack. Despite the bustling anticipation, Allen still couldn’t shake his confusion over why the Alpha King had summoned him. His responsibilities stretched far beyond attending royal summits. He’d been traveling through the North American kingdom, forging alliances and searching for his mate. At 26 years old, he’d resigned himself to the idea that the moon goddess had other plans. Most werewolves found their mates at 18, but for Allen, the wait continued. He didn’t necessarily yearn for a mate; he needed a Luna to help stabilize his wolf and guide his pack. Some alpha wolves had been known to lose their grip on sanity without a mate by the time they turned 30. The pack elders had suggested a chosen mate, but Allen preferred to wait—if only until the last possible moment. “Justice, remind me again why I need to be at this Alpha King summit?” Allen asked as they walked. “I know I’m King Jesse’s alpha, but I could serve him better by maintaining relationships with the other alphas in the kingdom. Why is meeting the African king so important right now?” Justice, ever patient, replied, “King Jesse explained it already. He wants to introduce you to King Ezuna for the new trade proposal. You were the one who suggested we expand trade with other kingdoms for natural medicines and establish an exchange program for healers. King Ezuna’s kingdom has the strongest healers, the best medicines, and the finest teachers of healing arts. Plus, he’s descended from Siyomara, the legendary African healer.” Allen frowned. “You’re well-versed in this. Jesse could’ve sent you instead, and I could’ve stayed on the road.” Justice chuckled. “There’s another benefit. You’ve been wanting permission to travel to the Caribbean packs. Prince Kutalek leads the largest pack in the islands, and several others fall under the African kingdom. Not to mention King Ezuna’s alliances with Europe, Australia, and Antarctica. Meeting him could open doors for us to travel further.” Allen had to admit Justice had a point. His Beta was adept at seeing the big picture, keeping him grounded when his focus narrowed. Their teamwork was seamless, ensuring their pack’s leadership remained strong. “All right, Justice,” Allen conceded. “Meeting this king could be worth it. I know King Jesse holds him in high regard—they’ve been close since childhood. For the kingdom’s sake, I suppose I can endure a couple of hours in the market square.” Justice smirked. He knew Allen hated crowded festivals and visiting packs. The chaos made it easier for rogues or lone wolves to slip through security. While lone wolves typically sought food and fun, rogues often sought to test defenses or sow disorder. “Did the other packs send reinforcements for this weekend’s summit?” Allen asked. “Yes,” Justice confirmed. “Everyone’s determined to keep things smooth with all the kings in one place. Our kingdom’s guards will wear traditional pack colors, while visiting warriors will wear their own.” Allen nodded. “We’ll leave most of our warriors patrolling the perimeter and take only a dozen of our strongest with us.” “Sounds good, Alpha. Let’s grab drinks after the meet-and-greet. With all these wolves around, we might just find our mates.” Justice, too, had been searching for his mate. Their Gamma stayed behind to run the pack while they traveled, content to avoid long trips, as he already had his mate and young pups. Allen trusted their Gamma completely; the three had grown up together, and their camaraderie ensured the pack’s stability. The royal packhouse wasn’t far from the village, sparing Allen and Justice a longer trek. King Jesse had left earlier to meet King Ezuna, but Allen preferred arriving closer to the event’s start to limit unnecessary mingling. When they arrived at the market square, the atmosphere was electric. Vendors had gone above and beyond, with food stalls and unique treats dotting the area. Pups darted about, laughing as they enjoyed games and sweets. Allen found himself imagining his own pups running through scenes like this. His wolf stirred, sharing the sentiment. As they walked toward the square’s center, Allen felt a sudden shift in his wolf’s demeanor. Zor, always alert, now seemed hyper-focused, almost frantic. “What’s wrong, Zor? Do you sense danger?” Allen asked silently. ‘Our mate is here. You have to find her. Why are you still standing around?’ Zor demanded, his voice a low growl filled with impatience. Allen’s pulse quickened. “Thousands of people are here. How am I supposed to find her? It’s like searching for a needle in a haystack,” he replied inwardly. ‘Use your nose,’ Zor urged, the command ringing with an urgency Allen had never felt before. ‘If I can sense her, you can smell her—if she hasn’t left yet.’ Taking a deep breath, Allen inhaled deeply, searching for a clue. At first, the scents of the market overwhelmed him—freshly baked bread, roasted meats, and spiced sweets—but then, through the cacophony of smells, one stood out. It hit him like a thunderbolt: a scent so intoxicating that his entire body tensed. It was warm and inviting, yet thrillingly sweet, like freshly baked blueberry muffins laced with a hint of wild honey. His breath caught in his throat, and his wolf let out a low, rumbling growl of pure longing. ‘Do you feel that?’ Zor’s voice was thick with emotion. ‘That’s her. That’s ours. She’s close—find her.’ The scent seemed to wrap around Allen, igniting his senses and stirring emotions he hadn’t known he could feel. Zor was nearly clawing at him to move, growling softly but persistently. Allen’s chest tightened, his heart pounding in his ears. The scent wasn’t just pleasant—it was everything he didn’t know he needed. It called to the deepest part of him, pulling him forward like an invisible tether. He turned toward the east entrance, his eyes scanning the crowd with a new intensity. Zor growled again, an impatient, guttural sound filled with longing and urgency. Allen started moving, his body guided more by instinct than reason. The world around him blurred as his focus narrowed to the scent, his wolf vibrating with anticipation. Each step brought him closer to what felt like destiny, his mate, the one who would complete him in ways he hadn’t dared to imagine. The moment was electric, charged with a kind of energy that made his skin hum and his wolf howl. Whoever she was, wherever she stood in the sea of faces, he would find her—and he knew without a doubt she would change his life forever
