Sapphire drowsily lifted her lids open but quickly shut it due to a blinding spotlight shining above her.
Sapphire felt a throbbing pain in her head and tried to move but found herself trapped to a chair.
Her brows furrowed and a muffled grunt escaped her lips.
‘Why can't I move?’
Sapphire slowly opened her eyes again, she squinted to adjust to the brightness. Once her vision cleared, she looked down at herself and realized her hands were tied to the back of a chair and she was only in her underwear.
Sapphire opened her mouth to speak but the gag in her mouth silenced her.
What's going on?
Her legs start to tremble.
Have I been kidn*pped? When? How?!
Last thing I remember, I was in Serene’s room!
Hushed chatters caught her attention and she snapped her head up to the direction and her pupils dilated.
Sapphire realized she was on the platform of the pack theater hall and in front of her were ten Alphas she'd seen when she was little. They sat in the first row of the audience seats and among them was…
Her father, Alpha Vrynn.
A cackling of heels approached her, “Well… well… well… the sleeping beauty has awoken.””
Sapphire’s ears perked up, the voice sounding awfully familiar to…
“Good you woke up on your own, saves me the trouble of slapping you awake.” the voice chuckles rippled through the air, Sapphire's toes curled.
What are you doing here?
Why am I here… tied up like this?
“I’m sure most of you have heard of Sapphire, our pack’s pet,” the voice addressed the audience.
Sapphire’s heart raced, the harsh light on her made tears swell in her eyes.
“She will be the final item in today's Auction.”
Sapphire’s breath hitched.
W…what?
Item?
Auction?
Am I getting illegally auctioned… by father?
Sapphire squirmed in the chair trying to yell and have her questions answered but nobody paid her any mind.
One of the Alpha raised his hand. “How can we be sure she truly turns into a puppy? All assurance we have are your words.”
“Of course she does,” Alpha Varyn said, “I was there that day. I saw it with my own eyes. How embarrassing! Why would I lie about something so disgraceful?”
They really are going to auction me?
Sapphire's heart kept thumbing in her chest, and her tremor increased.
No, no, no!
Sapphire tried to scream from the rag. She kicked and tried to jump on the chair to get Alpha Varyn’s attention.
“She’s also good at ballet.”he continued, “Her crazy mother was obsessed with teaching her different things. The millet can play the piano, the guitar, and the violin. Can sing, play all sorts of sports…”
Varyn smirked, “And she’s still a virgin,” “The perfect trophy. I’m sure she’ll be great entertainment for whoever ends up winning the bidding."
Seriously!
What is going on?
Why is he doing this to me?
Why…?
Why…?
Why…?!
I was going to leave!
Tears rolled down Sapphire’s cheeks as she watched her father.
He was selling her off to werewolves who had watched her grow up. Alphas he complained he never liked and looked down on him.
After raising me all those years, what did it mean to you?
“Can’t you make her transform, Alpha Varyn?” another Alpha groaned.
“I can prove she can turn into a puppy,” The voice announced and pulled out a remote, and turned on a projector.
A paused video of Sapphire standing alone in the forest was displayed on the white board behind Sapphire.
“Oh, you’ve got to see this.”
Sapphire’s chair was turned abruptly.
Serene loomed over her, a wicked grin was plastered on her face.
Serene played the footage. It showed Sapphire deep in the forest. She crouched down, her bones snapped and twisted until her size shrank and transformed into a small silver wolf.
Sapphire vividly remembers that day. She endured the pain of the shift just to prove she could transform into a blue wolf like her peers, silently praying to the moon goddess to help her but her hopes were crushed yet again.
Sapphire was alone that day, she didn't even inform her mother of the outing much less the location which could only mean…
Serene had been spying on her.
Rage swelled up in Sapphire as the video replayed.
Who is this? This can't be the friend I used to know.
Sapphire had once thought she might get along with Serene again after all her friend
wasn’t the one who seduced her father or allowed themselves to fall. Guilt sometimes gnawed at her for being cold to her but now she realized she had been foolish. Serene was just like her mother.
Sapphire cleached her fist, shaking with rage, she tried to jump on Serene.
“Calm down, little puppy,” Serene sneered. “Or you’ll have to be put down.” She slapped Sapphire across her face, the force pushed Sapphire with her chair to the icy floor. Serene laughed. Her laughter pierced Sapphire's ear drums.
“Your new daughter is quite evil, so amusing.” Someone commented from the audience.
“Now let the bidding begin!”
One by one, the men started shouting bids.
Sapphire watched as her life as she knew it slipped away. She wept on the floor, shaking uncomfortably.
I should have listened to mother and never had come here…
How could I have foolishly expected the man who abandoned me and allowed everyone to abuse me to apologize?
“Going once, going twice….”
“And sold! for ten thousand dollars to Alpha Killian!” Serene’s voice brought her back from her thoughts.
“Didn't know your pack is this rich.”
“Don't ask the fountain moon pack for support after you blow up all your money.”
The other Alphas continued to grumble and curse.
“Wow, Alpha Killian,” Serene purred, “First time here, and you bought all the girls?.”
Alpha Killian nods, “I can't have them recalling all their lives that disgusting pigs almost ruined their lives.”
The theater went silent.
Alpha Varyn laughed, “I guess you can call them pigs.”
Alpha Killian ignored him, “Good, Alpha Lucian is here.”
“Huh? Why would he…” Serene's words were cut short as the entrance doors burst open.
Dozens of werewolves in uniform rushed into the hall and surrounded the men.
Serene tried to run but was tackled to the ground.
The guards pointed wolfsbane at the throats of the Alphas, which stopped them from moving.
What's happening?
Sapphire heart rate skyrocketed. Her eyes fell on him, Alpha Lucien. He is the youngest alpha in the realm and still was able to become the leader of one of the strongest packs and one of the candidates for next Alpha King.
“By the power vested in me,” Lucien declared, “you are all under arrest for illegal auctions and the slave trading of young she-wolves.”
“No! You can’t do this!” Alpha Varyn shouted. He growled as he glared at him, “This is my pack! How can you arrest me in my territory?”
Lucien’s lips curled up, “I’m already doing it.”
“I'll have you killed! Alpha Lucien? You and Killian! You're acting this way because you look down on me isn't it?”
Alpha Lucien turned, ignoring his shouts and walked towards the platform, his icy blue eyes locked on Sapphire.
Ignoring the chaos around, “Don’t worry,” he said. “I’m here to save you.”
He reached out his arm. It gradually transformed, his paws grew claws.
With one strike, he cut through the chains that bound her.
Sapphire quickly stood up. She spat out the gag from her mouth and instinctively curled into a ball.
Alpha Lucien took off his coat and draped it over Sapphire,“Your hand, my lady,” Lucian smiled at her while his arm transformed back.
Sapphire hesitated, her hands trembling but she wanted to leave, a second spent still there was like another knot being tied in her heart.
Sapphire reached out her hands and the moment their palms touched, a bolt of energy surged through them both.
The electric feeling danced through their veins.
Alpha Lucien’s wolf stirred violently inside him.
“Mate.”
