I left my brother and the others in Natalia’s room and went back to reception. Teresa still hadn’t come back and I was still on duty. Elisabeth was upset with me for not telling her what happened; I needed to find the time to update her. But I needed to be calm. As it was, telling Elisabeth was the last thing on my mind. I was so worried that someone would hear my brother’s growls and reveal everything we had been trying to hide for so long. It was a good thing Teresa hadn’t returned yet. We couldn’t afford her to know about Natalia’s and Elisa’s arrival at the motel.
So when Teresa came back in and started asking questions about new arrivals, I didn’t suspect anything. It was normal to ask about newcomers before taking over the reception duties.
