PHOEBE'S POV
It's 5th January and we are back in school for the second semester of freshmen year. WHY GOD WHY? As usual, Caroline, Elly and I were walking down the hallway towards our lockers. We reached our lockers and started taking books for the day. We were super early today. There is at least half an hour for our first class. Leo and Mike came up to us.
"Hey guys" Caroline greeted them
"Hey" the both of them said
"Happy Belated Birthday Caroline!" Mike wished her.
He visited his grandparents in California in the holidays. So he couldn't wish her earlier.
"Thanks Mike" she said giving him a side hug.
Elly and Leo went for their chemistry class. Wow the irony. Mike headed to arts class. Caroline and I had robotics so we were going to our class. We entered the class and was greeted by a scream.
"HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY CAROLINE!" Nick screamed to her.
"You forgot my birthday didn't you? What happened to 'I'm gonna win you back', Nicholas Davis" Caroline asked mockingly.
For a minute I didn't understand anything. Why is Caroline talking to him. Then realization dawned upon me and I remembered about that whole conversation Caroline told me.
"No I didn't. I was out of town. That's why I didn't wish." he said with a pout on his face.
Disgusting
I don't know why Caroline is like giving everyone chances. Well, that's just her. And Nick was trying. So, I guess it's not wrong.
"Okay, okay stop pouting and sit down. Remember I still haven't forgiven you." Caroline said as she sat down.
We sat down at our places and that's when I realized a certain someone was watching us from the door. And guess who it was.
Jane Queen
The clichè annoying girl in every single high school. The cheerleader, prom queen, queen bee of the school. Yup. But right now she was not that famous in school because well, she wasn't Nick's girlfriend anymore. They broke up and she didn't come to school for a while. And she's finally here. But well, she was glaring daggers at Caroline. Probably because she was talking to Nick. And Nick is practically flirting with her. And she's part of the cheerleading team. Yeah. That's probably why. She walked in as quick as possible with her little minions behind. She slammed her palms on Caroline's table.
"Um. Can I help you?" Caroline asked looking very confused.
"Here's how you can help me. Stay away from my life" she said
"Um, excuse me if I'm wrong but...am I in your life right now? You are practically intruding my personal space by being this close to me. And you are asking ME to stay out of YOUR life?" Caroline asked defensively.
That's my girl.
She was about to say something when the teacher came in. She huffed and stomped to her seat.
"Good morning class." Mr. Stocklin said enthusiastically.
Um...That's not very much like him. He is always yelling and barking orders. He is also a coach of the football team. How is he-
"NO. BAD MORNING" his voice boomed in the class.
There we go. The same old Mr. Stocklin.
"You know why it's a bad morning?" he asked
"Do you know Davis?"
"Um. No coach" he calls him that because he was the football team coach
"BECAUSE ALL OF YOU ARE IDIOTS. ALMOST EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU FAILED THE TEST BEFORE." he said and my eyes widened.
"The ones who passed are Ms. Williams, and Ms. Wilson." he said and a smile broke across Caroline's face.
Well, I was incredibly jelous. How can I fail? We study the same time. The same topics. We do it all together. But when it comes to marks it's always Caroline. I pushed the thought to the back of my mind, giving myself a mental note to study harder.
"Don't get too happy over there. The two of you got a C." he said and her smile disappeared.
She looked over at me and I guess she probably saw the sad look on my face. She leaned towards me and whispered,
"Hey, its fine. You'll score higher next time. Its just the first semester."
Mr. Stocklin started talking again,
"To repay for your tests all of you have to do projects in pairs. And I mean every single one of you. Even the ones who passed."
"Mr. Stocklin can we choose our pairs?" Danielle, my classmate asked.
"I will be choosing your pairs" he said as everyone groaned
He started naming pairs
"...Jeffry and Tom, Danielle and Phoebe and finally, Nicholas and Caroline"
Caroline sighed and I tried hard to stifle a laugh. She elbowed me in my ribs. Nick walked over to us,
"Caroline, you're gonna be with me" he sang childishly
"Grow up, Nick" Caroline said as she rolled her eyes.
We walked out of class and went to our respective classes for the rest of the day.
CAROLINE'S POV
I was currently in the middle of the woods with Damian and he's teaching me how to use a crossbow. Well, that sounded more cliche then what I intended.
"Okay, I've definitely done this more than 20 times. It's not working!" I whined to him
"Caroline, you need to try."
I gave him my puppy dog eyes. In my opinion, they looked cuter when I was chubbier. He sighed and gave in. Hah. I knew it would work.
"Fine. Take 5"
I sat down and drank some water from my water bottle. When I kept my bottle inside, I noticed the triskele in my bag. The one Uncle Elijah gave me. I forgot to tell Damian about it.
"Hey, Damian. The night of Christmas I got a present from Uncle Elijah. It was a triskele."
"What? Let me see it." he took it and looked at it with a calculative gaze
"I think he is giving us a clue. Do you know what a triskele means"
"Yeah. Cycles of three. Like past-present-future, father-mother-child."
He looked at me with a confused yet amused and impressed look.
"How'd you know that?"
"Um. Teen Wolf?" I said and his expression immediately flattered
"What? Its a famous show you know?"
"Just when I thought you might have studied something" he mocked
"Anyway, what does it mean here?" he asked to himself.
I thought to myself and like a thunder bolt, it striked me.
"The code. The TRISKELION's secret code has to be something about a cycle of three."
His eyes widened.
"CAROLINE WILLIAMS YOU ARE A GENIUS" he practically screamed and pounced on me.
"Now all we have to do is find what the cycle is. YOU ARE SO SMART. I would have NEVER thought of that"
"Um. Isn't that just common sense"
"Well, I don't have much of those"
We both laughed at his statement until I realized the position we were in. He was basically on top of me.
"Um. Damian?"
"Yeah?"
I raised a questioning eyebrow. Finally he realized what I was trying to say and woke up.
"Sorry" he said sheepishly
"Yeah, its fine" I replied
"Okay, let's get back to the archery" he said giving me a hand
I took in a deep breath and aimed at the target. I shot it and closed my eyes. I opened it and saw the arrow right in the middle. BULL'S EYE!
"Finally" I sighed
"Yes, Caroline. Continue doing that. Get it in your mind."
I continued shooting every arrow and it all reached the centre. After finishing all of it, we walked back home.
...
On our way back home...
"So, Damian. What are your new year resolutions?" I asked him out of curiosity.
"Didn't really think about it. But for the current situation, find out the truth about Phoebe, keep you and your friends safe, catch the g**g leaders, put them in jail-"
"DAMIAN" I shouted, frustrated
"What?"
"You do realize that resolutions are about yourself right? Everything you said now was about everyone except yourself" I said to him.
He chuckled at my amused expression.
"It is about me. You are part of my life. So protecting you is also part of my life. Therefore, protecting people who you love is also part of my life" he said, smiling.
"What are you? Doing a conclusion about your life? You are in the middle of your senior year right now. Why aren't you talking about colleges and grades?" I asked
"Human life is more important than grades, Cici" he said mockingly
I stopped him on his tracks
"Hey you. Look at me."
I said as I held his face and turned him towards me harshly. My eyes in slits.
"You are gonna focus on your grades and get into a college when this year ends. I'm gonna help you. And you are NOT gonna go around doing dumb things. YOU. ARE. GOING. TO. STUDY YOUR a*s OF." I finished my sentence.
"Okay, mom!" he said, smirking at me.
I knocked the back of his head and he tumbled.
We laughed as we reached home. I went back to my room to find Ivy sitting there.
"Hey! How was your date?" she asked smirking
I threw a pillow at her and played down on my bed
"That was not a date Ivy"
"Keep saying that to yourself" she mocked
I groaned
"Come on, Caroline. Why can't you just go out with him. He's cute. And sweet. And hot. And-"
"SHUT UP!" I screamed
"Fine, I'll ask you one thing. Does he think of you as a sister?" she asked
My mind immediately drifted to the time he said to me and I quote. "I AM ANYTHING BUT YOUR BROTHER" on the first day of training.
"Knock, knock!" Ivy's voice brought me out of my trance.
"Um. Nothing"
"What do you mean nothing. Okay. So something happened." she said with a smirk.
"Spill. NOW" she demanded.
I sighed and told her what happened. Leaving the part of the g**g. She literally jumped hearing this news while I was completely conflicted.
"I knew it. Of course he likes you" she shouted.
I put my hand over her mouth.
"YES. AND HE IS IN OUR HOUSE i***t!" I whisper-yelled to her.
"So now what you have to do is talk to him and get a boyfriend"
I glared at her.
"Yes, maybe he likes me Ivy. But I've never seen him that way. And yes my mind already changed from that 'brother' thought but I can't see him as a boyfriend. NO WAY!" I told her, frustrated.
She sighed,
"Fine. If he's not your brother then what is he?"
I sighed and told her,
"A friend. And he will always be a friend."
