Eight: The Talk

987 Words
I felt like a frozen bird in winter by morning, my fingers and toes are numb from cold and I was flat out tired from tossing and turning on the hard floor all night, guess I'm not used to sleeping in flesh but deep down I think my restlessness is caused by something else. I just don't know what. My stomach grumbles from hunger and I look toward the plate of food which is probably spoiled by now, I should have just eaten the food last night, this is the best have been given in my months of being confined here. And right now the food has lost its sweet aroma and must have gone sore because the scent has started changing, I walk my hand through the nest of hair on my head and scowl as a finger got caught in it. I was still scowling at myself when I heard footsteps before the door was yanked open. I immediately sat up straight covering my chest with my messed-up hair as much as possible. The guard from yesterday put his head through the door to look at me "put this on, the beta will be coming to see you soon", he said before throwing in a trashed skirt and blouse with a rat for breakfast. I scurry off toward the rat first as soon as the guard disappeared behind a closed door, I tore my teeth into the familiar meat and immediately spit it out. "Goddess, this taste awful". I mutter to myself before spitting out the remnants in my mouth. "Ungrateful human, this has kept us alive until now, I shouldn't have handed over the control to you. You'd probably starve us to death". My wolf seethes in my head. My wolf hardly talks to me, just like I rarely talk to her when I'm in the recess of her mind. We find comfort in the silence, either one of us has always trusted in the other to make the right choice for us both. But seeing as she tried scratching out my brain cell, I believe I haven't made any right choices so far. I sigh before picking up the clothes to get dressed while awaiting the beta. _____________________________________ It was hours later before the dungeon door opened again and the beta walked in, he was looking tired with what appeared as a permanent scowl etched on his feature. "It's good to see you changed your mind, it will be a waste to let such beauty wither away in the dungeon". He said as soon as he walked in. "I heard you were busy, I wanted to talk since yesterday". I said looking him straight in the eyes "We can get started now that I'm here," he said squatting down in front of me. "So tell me, where are you from?" "I don't know". I answered honestly "I thought you wanted to talk," He said annoyed "Yes, and I'm talking. But first where is this place," I asked confused He just looked at me as if I have grown two heads before blinking. "You don't know where you are?" He asked with a frown "No, where am I?, I asked again now desperate to find out. "Fine, how about I tell you where you are, and in return, you will tell me all I need to know including what you are ignorantly doing here". He said with a frown. "Ok". So where am I? "You are in the Northern Cheyenne," he said "Northern Cheyenne?, Never heard of it." "Which makes me wonder where in the goddess name you came from, how about you tell me." He replied And just like that, I backtracked to my history, and what lead me into their trap and dungeon. But strangely the beta looked extremely pale by the end of my story. "Your mate, the one you said marked you, can you describe him, tell me what he looks like. He said almost in a whisper. Strangely, he's only interested in the male that bit me, but if that's what will get me out of here, I don't mind retelling the story, warmth spread through me as I remember the hunky male who claims to be my mate. "He's tall, a foot higher than you, dark olive skin, he had a tattoo similar to the other male with him, deep brown eyes, midnight black hair". I smile as I recall what the male looks like. "Goddess" I heard the beta mutter before standing up abruptly. He pulls off his shirt to reveal a similar tattoo, " does the tattoo looks like this one? He asks in between clenched teeth. "Yes, I guess it's a shapeshifter thing if you all have the same tattoo on your body?". I asked still looking at his arm tattoo He just look at me with the are you stupid kinda eyes, Ignoring my question he continued ranting to himself before squatting back to my eyes level. "Goddess, why did you run away from your mate?" He asked with what I assumed is an annoyed tone. "He bit me," I said "He didn't bit you, he marked you, there is a difference. he said pinching his nose bridge. I just sat down there looking up at him and wondering what is his problem, well I don't know what to say to him, besides not that it mattered anymore. I just shrugged. "Give me some minutes, I will be back," he said before rushing out of the dungeon. "What's wrong with the male", my wolf asked in her usual bored tone. "You can ask him when he comes back, he said to give him some minutes," I reply irritated. "I do wolf things, you do the human things," my wolf reply before shutting me out. I sigh as I get up from the hard floor to work my stiff bones while waiting for the beta.
