The words echoed in my mind, over and over.
"I don’t love you, Silas."
I hadn’t lied to him; I simply couldn’t bear to give him false hope. What we were doing was wrong, and I wanted to stop it before we both got too far. After he left the room, I dressed and tried to sleep, but my mind wouldn’t allow it.
Instead, I wrapped myself in a blanket and sat by the window, staring out into the snow-covered garden. I hoped the cold night air outside might help quiet the storm of thoughts in my head.
