Chapter 7: Life must go on

Our life must go on even though Adele is around. Brian and I found our own ways to enjoy every threat that Adele does, right now she's just threatening or bluffing us around, but Brian said, we must get ready for what she's going to do next.
Brian will have his birthday in a week but I can't think of a gift yet.
(Doorbell rings) I opened the door and tada.
"Hey, baby, I miss you." Then she hugged me.
"M-mom, what are you doing here?"
"What am I doing here? Your dad told me that sometimes you're acting so odd and I came here to visit."
"About that, it's because I am adjusting."
" Yeah, I can see that. You are adjusting to everything." Then she pointed out the guards outside our house.
"Including that."
"Mom, it's for my safety. There are some crazy things going around here, that's why."
"I see." Then the door opens.
"H-hey." Then Lia smirks.
"Hi, Lia, nice to see you again."
"You too." then she chuckles.
"What is she doing here?" Lia whispered to me.
"I don't know, maybe dad told her what's happening here." I whispered back.
"So, girls. What are you going to do today?" Mom asked.
"Umm, actually mom, I'm thinking of something to give as a gift for my boyfriend's birthday."
"What? Your boyfriend?! You haven't told me about him, why is that so, young lady?"
"I'm sorry mom, uh--"
"There are just some errands that we need to focus on, you know just like school works. Also, prom night is coming, aunt." Lia said.
"Thank you for saving my butt, Lia." I whispered to her.
"I got you." Lia whispered back at me and she wink.
"Hmm, okay. Maybe, I'll just accept that reason for now, but, you must let me meet that man tomorrow, invite him for dinner."
Then, mom smiled at me.
"Yes, mom. Thank you, you are really the best mom." I hugged her.
"hmm, hmm, okay, so let's get into the business, what do you have in mind?"
"I don't know, mom. It's just that he's very strange, you know, a mysterious man."
"I got an idea, why don't you try to bake him some cookies." Lia said excitedly.
"That's a great idea, you know what they say baby, a way to a man's heart is thru their stomach." Mom said.
Then we all laughed.

Mom and Dad are catching up with each other, just chit chatting, while Lia and I are in my room.
"Ave, have you noticed Brian's look? He's definitely hot, I mean his hair is finally growing." Then Lia laughed.
"Yes, I see that, you know what you're right, he looks like a model and I really don't know if he will like these cookies." I grabbed one cookie and ate it.
"Of course he will like it, you are the one who baked it, so why not?"
"Maybe I am just overreacting or what, you know, I can't stop thinking about the article that we've read, it says that their family owns a multi-billionaire company and he will probably inherit it."
"Wait, are you thinking about his parents?"
"Yes, probably, I can see myself that I will be an outcast to their family."
"Hey, this is not the Avery I know, na-ah, the negativity, that's not you."
"I don't know what to feel or say, I'm just over thinking."
"Don't be, instead, let him know that your mom invited him tomorrow for dinner, remember?"
"Oh yeah, I almost forgot." Then I grabbed my phone and messaged Brian.
To: Brian
Hi, can you come tomorrow night for dinner? My mom wants to meet you. xoxo
"So, let's sleep?" Lia said.
"Yeah, goodnight. Anyways, thank you, Lia."
"Always, Ave. Love you, goodnight."

It's almost dinner time but mom has done everything.
"I'm so excited, this is the first time that I'm gonna meet your boyfriend."
"Of course, mom, he's my first boyfriend too."
(Car approaching / Doorbell rings)
"There he is." Dad opened the door.
"Good evening." Brian handed the food he brought for our dinner.
"Thank you, have a seat." Mom said.
"Thanks, Bri." I whispered to him.
"Just always nod or smile, you don't need to answer all of her questions." I whispered to him again, Brian gave me an okay sign.
"So, I think you already spoke to Fred, right?"
"Yes, ma'am."
"Hmm, and now you will be talking to me, just call me Lauren, okay?"
"Okay, Lauren." Brian said and he smiled.
So, mom started to ask questions.
"Based on your look, you are from a sophisticated family, I like that."
"Thank you."
"Also, Avery told me that those guards outside were sent by you?"
"Yes, it's for Avery's safety, I am sorry, but there are some things that I don't want to tell right now and I just want to keep it private."
I saw Dad tapped Mom.
"I am sorry, Brian." I told him.
"No, that's okay, I understand, she's your mom and of course every parent wants their daughter or son to be safe, that's why Lauren is asking."
"I'm sorry, I just want to make sure and I'm just really straightforward."
Brian just smiled, then he began to introduce himself.
"I am Brian Mendoza, the second child of the Mendoza Empire, but, I just live here with my bestfriend James, my parents were in London for our business, I am sorry if I drag Avery to this kind of situation that makes her feel so uncomfortable, if I've implicated her in the issues I'm involved in." Then Brian bowed down to my parents.
Mom and Dad were surprised by what Brian said, especially dad, who always sees Brian, they never thought that my boyfriend was an heir of a big company. I was also shocked by Brian's confession about the state of his life, he didn't give me a chance to ask him, he volunteered to tell me and my family.
"W-what?!" Mom said in shock.
"Is everything true there, Brian? Or are you just kidding?" Dad said.
"Everything I just said is true. But, you don't need to worry, I will.do everything to make Avery safe."
"Okay, that doesn't matter, just take care of my daughter and don't you ever dare to play with her feelings." Dad said.
"You know what I will do to you." Dad added.
"Yes, sir! You can count on me. I will not let Avery be hurt by anyone or anything." Then Brian held my hand.

I took Brian to his car and said,
"Thank you for this night, I really enjoyed it and thank you for being honest with who you really are."
He kissed me and said, "I will do anything for you and I don't want to hide anymore, I am tired of being like this, hidden."
I smiled at him, "Whatever or whoever you are, I will always love you."
He hugged me and said, "You must go inside, your mom, I mean Lauren and Fred will scold me."
"Hmm, okay, okay, I'll see you tomorrow."
"I love you, Ave. See you."
"I love you, too."
Brian got in his car and left.
