~~Thorne~~
The days rolled by so fast that it has been exactly a week since my coronation. Being the werewolf king hasn’t been as stressful as I thought it would be.
Or that could be because my father was still handing a reasonable amount of work that my father was still handling even while I had taken over from him.
I sat in my office with little or nothing much to do, just very tired from not doing anything. Balling my fists, I walked over to my father’s office, ready to get answers from him today.
His office hadn’t even changed from when he was still the king, all he did was to give me another office close to his. His was bigger and it shouldn’t be so, I’m the king now.
I opened his office to see a whole pile of paperwork before him, he was actively working and it looked like he was running on a deadline.
“Thorne, I didn’t see you there. When did you get here?” He asked, looking up at me. He was so busy that he didn’t even hear when I knocked or entered.
“I see that you’re so busy. Too busy to even hear me come in.”
“Yes, I am. There are a lot of paperwork that needs to be finished, and I have really tight deadlines.” He answered me.
“Dad? I’m the king now, shouldn’t I be the one handling all these? Why are you the one working when I should be the one working?” I asked him, trying so hard to remain patient even though I felt like lashing out.
It was just like I was a figure head or something. He’s the one doing all the work and I’m meant to just be known as the king, but he takes all the decisions and does all the work.
“I thought I already explained this to you, I’m just trying to finish the works that I started before you took over. I’ll soon hand over everything to you.”
“What about the ones that came in this morning, and yesterday too? I should be the one taking care of them, I’m the one in power now and I should be doing all the work, not you. The only thing you make me do is sign.” I lashed out in exasperation.
“What are you even driving at? Shouldn’t you be happy that someone is doing your work for you?” He asked me with a bit of surprise on his face.
“No, I’m not. I won’t just sit there while you do all the work. I’m the king now and I want to do the work of a king, not some underdog.”
He stared at me with a fierce look on his face, I didn’t know what he was really driving at or what he wanted to achieve before, but it seems I know it now.
Maybe he didn’t know that the son he raised wasn’t like the bratty teenager he was. I’m a man now, and I won’t allow another person do the work that I was meant to do.
“You know, I really thought you wouldn’t give me any problem. When you rejected your mate and handed her over to me, I thought I had you under me already. But it seems I was wrong about you, maybe you’d give me issues.”
“I wasn’t going to, I thought you’d act just like any normal person and hand over all the power to me. I’ve always did everything you asked me to do, I even rejected my mate for you after you found out that her father was a rebel. I rejected her publicly for you. This is why you made me give you my loyalty please right? It’s for me to be your underdog and nothing more.”
I should have just known right from the onset that this man wouldn’t give up the kingship position for me just like that.
“Let me get this straight, you made me the king just so everyone would see that you weren’t the king anymore, so it wouldn’t look like you don’t want to leave the position. But that was a facade, you want to be the one still in control while everyone sees me as king.”
He didn’t answer me, but the look on his face gave me all the answers that I needed. That was really his plan, he wants me to be the underdog.
I felt the royal power in me shift, he stared at me with an intensity in his eyes too. But the crown belongs to me now, so I’m practically more powerful than him, he didn’t even really have much power like I do.
“No, it won’t happen. You’ll finish whatever you still have to do and have over those works to me, father.” Authority leaked into my voice, no one dares go against that, not even my father.
“I will.” He answered against his will. His wolf wouldn’t go against my authority.
“I want everything on my desk this evening.” I finalized then walked towards his door.
“You’ll regret doing this, Thorne. I’ve been in this game before you.” He said, almost stopping me. I walked out of his office either ways.
It wouldn’t make sense if I make my father my enemy, would it? But I’ll do it as long as he’s standing in my way of being the king properly.
As I walked towards the entrance of the palace, I heard Aria’s loud voice. I rushed over to the place and saw her slapping a maid immediately I got there.
“Didn’t I warn you all to kneel and greet me each time you all see me?” She roared at the maid.
“What’s happening here?” I asked.
“She disrespected me, I want her beheaded!” Aria yelled.
“Come with me, let’s talk about this.” I said, dragging her with me.
I stopped when I got to my office, facing her with so much seriousness.
“Aria, you can’t go around treating anyone like a slave. No one is a slave here, they are all workers.” I warned her.
“They’re slave to me, they live off us. And I still want that girl beheaded.” She roared.
This really wouldn’t be an easy ride.
