Chapter 10

CHAPTER TEN Natasha stood atop the building, watching the night traffic pass by. “Wolfsbane, are you still in position?” A female voice asked, coming from the earpiece attached to her ears. It was Vera, still at the mansion and in charge of coordinating this entire operation. Natasha rolled her eyes, this was the fifth time she was being asked this. She almost didn't respond, just for the fun of it, but she pushed down that desire, the mission was more important than how she felt. “Copy,” She said, not sure why, but Ashier had stressed the importance of starting with that. Knowing Ashier, it was probably a joke. “I'm still here.” As always, thinking of Ashier brought a strange feeling, like butterflies in her stomach, only for her whole body. She remembered his caresses, his soft and strong arms moving around her whole...... Natasha slapped her head, hard. This was a mission, she was here to avenge her mother, not dote on guys. “Hey,” Riven said, his voice a bit muffled coming through the earpiece in her ears, “How are things looking on your end?” He asked. He was on the building opposite hers, though she couldn't see him, he was wearing liquid metal. It had started this morning. Ashier had mysteriously disappeared- on an important trip, Vera claimed, though she wouldn't share details- and had left a recorded message for them, a mission to accomplish. “Hey guys,” The message said, “numerous spies in the Arnia werewolves are all reporting that something big is happening tonight. They report to me that the Arnia werewolves is transporting a world changing secret weapon from one of their labs to another, we are not sure why, and honestly, we do not care.” “It is of the utmost importance that we neutralize this weapon, as it could be an hindrance to our plans, but more importantly, we just don't want them to have it.” Natasha almost laughed out loud, but managed to convert it into a cough. There was just something funny about Ashier pretending to be serious like this. “So, your mission is to retrieve this weapon by any means necessary, and if you can't, destroy it. Vera would get you outfitted and give you weapons. Good luck.” The voice stopped playing. After that, Vera had taken them across the mansion to a steel door, with a digit lock. She opened it, and led them inside. On the inside, it was like a haven of weapons, filled with rows and rows of them. These were not like the ones at the training room, these were more, far more, almost enough to supply an army of hundred, and they were all in silver Vera led them to what she assumed was a special section, and got them outfitted in state of the art liquid metal armour. Natasha had smiled, it was far better than the one she used before. Also, the weapons in this section were all made of the f*******n metal, and there were guns, swords, staves and many others. In the end, Natasha opted for her sword, though she did take a few knives from the shelf, they had the perfect balance. Riven, on the other hand, had chosen a pair of Scimitars, which were essentially two blades curved in an almost semicircle. He had also taken some poisons, though he said they were not completed, they should be enough to at least weaken them, and a large dose should end them. And so it was that Natasha found herself atop a two storey building, wearing a new and improved liquid metal suit, and her sword strapped to her back, the cool breeze l*****g her face. “Still as boring as a rat's funeral, are you sure this is the route?” She asked, this wasn't the first time, but she was a bit unfocused, she hadn't had time to visit her mother's grave like was her tradition before every mission. “I assure you, no matter which route they opt for, they will.......” He cut off abruptly, they were here. “Speak of the devil.” Natasha mumbled to herself. She checked her knives and sword, more out of habit than actual precaution, still, it was an habit that had saved her life multiple times. “Vera, they are moving into position, activate it now.” “Understood.” She replied, then after a second she said, “Spikes strips have been engaged, Good luck.” To the causal onlookers, the group of cars coming might seem normal, but Natasha's eyes could pick things most would miss. The way they drove protectively around the large trailer in the center told her they were the ones she was waiting for. She did a quick count, there were about five cars surrounding the truck, and most could sit about four werewolves, making them roughly twenty in total. Natasha bristled at the memory of the last time she went against odds like this, but she calmed down, now she wasn't alone. As if to buttress her point, Riven's voice sounded over the comms, “We have about ten seconds before they hit, get ready.” Natasha took a deep breath, enjoying the cool and fresh air, her heart at peace. The calm before the storm, she called it, when all was beautiful. The tires of the cars popped like gunshots as they ran over the strips, and some of the cars even flipped over due to the speed they were going, and the trailer containing the weapon skidded to a stop. Natasha jumped from the building and landed atop the trailer, she knew she did not have much time before the police came, though Vera had promised she would stall for as long as possible. She heard a thud close by, and guessed that must be Riven, idly, she wondered how well he could fight, she had never seen him train. Maybe not as good as her and Ashier, but he at least must be able to hold his on for him to jump so confidently into this. The werewolves started to come out from the cars, some were bloodied from their car flipping over, but most were unharmed, until their number was a bit over twenty. One by one they injected themselves with a dark purple liquid, lycanide, and then they began to transform, their growls growing deeper and deeper in the silence of the night. Natasha looked back at Riven, he stared at them intently, likely thinking of a smart and efficient way to defeat them. She laughed, a genuine laugh, and jumped into the midst of the werewolves with a smile on her face.
