“You're my mate?” I asked with uncertainty and doubt, even though I knew that the feeling I had earlier was genuine.
I could feel her wolf getting excited by the mere sight and scent of my new mate.
“I'm sure you felt it too, right?” He asked in a calm tone as he stroked his chin gently instead of answering my question.
I swallowed the lump in my throat as he moved closer to me and caught me in his warm arms before I could lose stamina and fall down.
He was a tall, handsome man with a large chest. He had a neat mustache that made him look tough and rigid. He had a nice jawline and blue eyes that seemed capable of penetrating into one's soul.
We remained in that posture and stared at each other in silence for a while until he decided to break the silence.
“You smell so sweet, mate,” he said and closed his eyes slightly as he sniffed my neck down to my chest, not realizing the strange and hot effect he was having on me.
My body trembled slightly as he took a sniff at my body and his warm breath crashed on my skin. Being close to him ignited a burning desire that I thought had died for a long time.
The feeling to be marked and mated.
“Why do you think committing suicide would solve your problems?” He asked with a cold look on his face and I looked away silently.
“It's a good thing that I followed your scent and came here on time before you killed yourself,” he muttered silently.
He pulled up and I nodded my head silently. “Thanks,” I muttered in a low tone.
“Since I have confirmed that my mate is fine, there is something you need to know,” he said, and his tone turned serious.
It was no longer calm and tranquilizing like it was earlier. My gaze turned sharp and serious when I heard his statement.
“What is that?” I asked in a calm tone and stared at him intently. Nothing could be more heartbreaking and surprising than Ethan refusing to take responsibility for the pregnancy and also rejecting me.
“I want you to know that I'm not ready for love, so don't raise your expectations of me,” he said, and I stared at him blankly for a while.
“Are you gay?” That was the question that came to my mind. His lips twitched as soon as he heard my questions.
“I am not. I just don't believe in such a thing called love, so it's better you know you're just my mate and nothing more,” he said ruthlessly, and I swallowed the lump in my throat.
I couldn't help rolling my eyes at him when I regained my composure.
“I have no problem with your demand. Not like I'm interested in having any relationship at the moment after what I have experienced,” I said and shook my head with a sigh.
He stared at me for a while with his blue eyes that seemed to be searching through my soul.
“I'd like to know what you've experienced to think you wouldn't want to be in a good relationship with someone like me,” he said with a hint of pride and arrogance in his voice.
I scoffed and looked away. That was one thing I hated about these tall and handsome guys. They all think the world revolves around them because of their handsome looks.
“Since I'm expected to only play a role as a mate, I don't think I owe you any explanation about my past life, right?” I asked coldly and watched as his gaze went cold, but I was unfazed.
“That’s right. You don't owe me any explanation,” he took a deep breath, trying to control whatever emotions he was having.
I must have trampled on his pride. Serve him right for thinking I was an easy prey because he caught me trying to commit suicide. I was the Luna of the Golden Moon pack until Ethan chose to reject me and cast me out.
At least with this new mate of mine, I won't have to stay in the pack and watch as my supposed best friend and my ex-mate mess around. With the scent on his body, I could tell that he wasn't a member of the Golden Moon pack.
“Follow me,” he said dominantly, leaving no room for discussion.
“If you're not interested in me or in love, what am I supposed to do?” I asked while we followed the path that led to the pack border.
He took a step backward and stared at me seriously. “I only want you to pretend as though you're in love with me.”
“For how long?” I asked, not intimidated by his look.
“At least two years after I become the Alpha of the pack, we can go our separate ways,” he said, and I nodded my head silently without responding.
My eyes widened in realization after he was done with his statement. He was an heir of a pack. No wonder he was proud and arrogant.
Two hours later, we arrived at his pack, which looked bigger and magnificent compared to the Golden Moon pack where I used to be a Luna.
“Take my mate to my room and make sure you treat her well,” he said to those maids around the empire.
The maids nodded their heads nervously, not daring to look him in the eyes.
Is he so scary? I couldn't help but ask myself.
His room? Just as I was about to complain, he tucked his hands inside his pockets without sparing a glance at me.
“Please come with us, my lady,” those maids said respectfully, and I nodded my head in response.
I was taken to his chamber, which looked like a small kingdom on its own. It has a study room, a large bedroom, a big bathroom, and even a playground. I wonder why there was a playground there though.
“You can take your leave,” I said after the maids were done showing me around and bathing me.
Who could have believed that someone like me who used to be a Luna would end up becoming a contract mate for an arrogant Alpha?
Standing before the tall mirror in the bedroom, I rubbed my hand on my stomach and cursed myself silently when I realized the unborn child inside of me would have died if I succeeded in committing suicide.
My real and contracted mate is my savior.
I took a deep breath as my train of thought was interrupted by the sound of the door which creaked open.
Hmp. My mate is back.
“I thought you said…” my mouth grew wide as I turned and found another person with a striking resemblance to my mate standing before me.
“Who are you?” We asked at the same time with his voice overpowering mine.
