THE MAN WITH THE SNAKE RING

Chapter 8: The Man with the Snake Ring Emily couldn't get Damien's face out of her mind. The silver snake ring was identical to the one she had seen in the security footage. Whether it was a coincidence or not, she couldn't ignore it. That night, after returning home, she searched through social media until she found Damien's profile. His photos showed him traveling, attending business events, and smiling beside Ethan at family gatherings. Nothing about him looked suspicious. Still, her instincts refused to let it go. The next morning, Ethan called. "My security contact found something." Emily's pulse quickened. "What is it?" "The fake license plate used on the black sedan was reported in another stalking case two years ago." "What?" "The investigation never identified the driver. Whoever is behind this knows how to cover their tracks." Emily felt a knot tighten in her stomach. "So this wasn't planned overnight." "No," Ethan replied. "Someone has been watching carefully." Later that afternoon, Olivia invited Emily to lunch. The sisters met at their favorite café, laughing over old memories until Olivia suddenly became quiet. "Can I ask you something?" she said. Emily smiled. "Of course." "Have you and Ethan been spending more time together lately?" Emily's heart skipped. "A little... mostly because of everything that's been happening." Olivia nodded thoughtfully. "I'm glad he's looking out for you." Emily released a breath she hadn't realized she was holding. There was no suspicion in Olivia's voice—only concern. The guilt in Emily's heart grew even heavier. That evening, Emily stopped by a bookstore on her way home. As she browsed the shelves, she noticed someone standing at the end of the aisle. A tall man. Black jacket. Silver snake ring. Damien. Before she could call out, he turned and walked away. Emily hurried after him. "Damien!" He disappeared through the exit. She rushed outside just in time to see him get into a black sedan. The car sped away before she could read the license plate. Breathing heavily, Emily immediately called Ethan. "I saw Damien," she said. "Where?" "Outside the bookstore." There was a long silence. Then Ethan spoke. "That's impossible." "Why?" "Because Damien left for London three days ago." Emily's blood ran cold. If Damien was overseas... Who was the man wearing the snake ring? And why did he look exactly like Ethan's cousin? From across the street, hidden behind the window of a parked car, the mysterious stranger watched Emily lower her phone. He smiled to himself. "Now the real game begins."
