Chapter 10: The Anonymous Package
Emily couldn't shake the feeling that someone was always watching her.
The blurred image of the scarred man stayed in her mind. Every stranger she passed made her wonder if he was hiding in plain sight.
Two days later, a delivery arrived at her apartment.
There was no return address.
Only her name was printed neatly across the brown box.
A wave of uneasiness washed over her.
She hesitated before opening it.
Inside was a velvet jewelry box.
Confused, she lifted the lid.
A delicate silver necklace lay inside. Beneath it was a folded note.
"A gift for the woman who is falling in love with the wrong man."
Emily's face turned pale.
She dropped the note as though it had burned her fingers.
Just then, her phone rang.
It was Ethan.
"Emily, are you home?" he asked.
"Yes."
"I'm coming over. Don't leave until I get there."
Twenty minutes later, Ethan examined the package carefully.
"He knows where you live," he said grimly.
"And he knows too much."
They decided to take the package to Marcus.
After inspecting it, Marcus frowned.
"There are no fingerprints. Whoever sent this wore gloves."
"What about the necklace?" Emily asked.
Marcus looked closely at the pendant.
"It's engraved."
He handed it to Emily.
Tiny letters were etched onto the back.
E & E
Emily stared at the initials.
"Ethan... and Emily?"
Ethan immediately shook his head.
"Or they could stand for something completely different. Don't let whoever did this manipulate you."
Marcus nodded in agreement.
"That's exactly what this person wants—to create doubt and drive a wedge between your family."
Emily swallowed hard.
"I won't let that happen."
But even as she said the words, she wondered how much longer she could keep the truth hidden from Olivia.
That evening, Olivia invited both of them over for dinner.
She greeted them with her usual warm smile, completely unaware of the fear and tension they carried.
As they sat around the table, Emily noticed Ethan's phone buzzing repeatedly.
He glanced at the screen, his expression changing for just a second before he silenced it.
"Everything okay?" Olivia asked.
"Just work," Ethan replied with a reassuring smile.
Emily wasn't convinced.
Later, as she prepared to leave, Ethan quietly slipped his phone into his pocket.
He had received another anonymous message.
It contained only one sentence:
"Tell your wife the truth... or I will."
Ethan's heart sank.
For the first time, he realized the danger was no longer aimed only at Emily.
Whoever was orchestrating this was preparing to tear their family apart—and Olivia was about to be caught in the middle.
