Aja drove for hours and hours listening to all of her favorite tunes and when she looked up she found herself looking at a sign that read Welcome to Greenville, North Carolina... She pulled into the first nice hotel she saw... it was the Marriot and she was exhausted. When she looked up at the dashboard, the screen said she had driven nine hours and forty-seven minutes from the Jersey shore to the coast of North Carolina. After sitting to catch her breath, she walked to the hotel and paid for a week in one of their top floor suites. Aja was so tired she didn't even bother to get any of luggage, she pulled out a pair of shorts and a cropped tee to sleep in. All she wanted right now was a hot shower and a bed. Hell, she didn't even bother to get food. She stepped into the all-white bathroom and began to undress as she turned the shower on. Aja took her long bouncy black hair and threw it up into a messy bun on top of her head. She sighed as she stood in the shower. She let the water just massage her tired, weary body. Then, from nowhere, tears began to roll down her cheeks and meet at the bottom of her chin like two lovers meeting for a date. She wiped her face, but the more she wiped the harder the tears fell. Aja could not believe how screwed her life was right now. Two days ago she woke up in her dream house, with her dream man, working in her dream career, and then yesterday came home to find that her whole life was a complete lie. Her heart was broken. She was torn by the scene of Drevan with that man. She couldn't even express how much it hurt. After standing in the shower for awhile, she felt the water getting cold, so she stepped out and dried off with one of the plush white towels hanging by the steps in the shower. She went to the room and rubbed almond butter with coconut oil lotion all over her body. She dressed and crawled into the middle of the bed grabbing her phone. As soon as she clicked it on, there were seven voice-mails from Drevan, twenty-one missed calls, and about seventeen text messages. There was a group chat message from Bianca, Mecca, Alijah, and Prissy. Oh, of course Bianca, a big-ass, told the other girls. Scrolling through the chat, all she saw was" c***k are you okay?, f**k that nigga, I'll get Kiante and them to f**k him up since he likes boys. Aja calls us, text us, say something. Please let us know you're okay. Final message: Okay Chinky boo, we'll give you some space to figure out and process, but for real, when you get a free moment, love let us know you're safe and okay...we love you Aja Eliah Colton. Rubbing the bridge of her nose and squeezing kind of tightly, she hit the lock button and just shook her because her girls were a little nutty, but she knew they meant well. Aja scooted down on the bed and slowly began to drift off because her body had had enough for the day. The next morning, Aja was awakened by a knock at the door. Who in the ENTIRE hell was that knocking on the door, because no one knows her here. She went to the door and got up on her tippy toes to look through the peephole. She gasped as she saw the finest nigga she had ever laid eyes on in a smoked gray Tom Ford suit. He knocked again and this time said: "Ms. Colton, are you awake? I am Mr. Overton and I am the hotel manager. I came up to check, because my staff said when you came in last night you were crying and the guests next door said they heard you crying. Are you alright Ms. Colton? Please come to the door." He begged with his low baritone voice. Aja ran to the bathroom while shouting towards the door: "Just a minute." Although she wasn't looking for anybody, this nigga was fiinnnnneeee and he wasn't about to see her bummed up. She quickly threw her hair back up in a bun and threw on some lip gloss from her purse. Aja almost fainted when she opened the door. I mean she saw him through the peephole but that did him no justice and he smelled like an Arabian god with Polo Black on. He was a cool breath of fresh air like when you inhale with a cough drop in your mouth. Aja almost forgot they were face to face as she stared at him. He interrupted her thoughts by asking again if she was okay. Aja slowly stuttered: "Yes, Mr. Overton, thank you for checking on me. I'm okay." "Are you sure Ms. Colton?" He asked with a look of concern on his face. Aja assured him she was fine. Before leaving, he gave her his personal number and told her to call him if she needed anything. What Aja didn't know was he had to do everything in his power not jump on her, because she was the most beautiful specimen of a woman that he had ever seen. As soon as Aja opened that door, Mr. Overton made up in his mind he had to have her. It's about noon and Aja decides she wants to see what Greenville, North Carolina has to offer, so she gets dressed after being on zoom all morning with the girls overwhelming her with questions about what she was going to do, where she was at, she was going to stay there, and a hundred others just like them. The truth is though, Aja didn't know what she was doing in the next ten minutes and she didn't care. For once in her life she was not caring, or planning, or being careful, she was literally flying by the seat of her pants. Aja in her car and turned right from the hotel's parking onto Colonial Blvd. Mr. Overton had told her where all the food and shops were there. That was a good thing, because it was now three o'clock and Aja had forgotten to eat but her stomach was talking loud enough for everyone to hear. Aja pulled into the Carolina Ale House parking lot. She wasn't quite sure of what type of restaurant this was but the sign said they had her two favorite things, wings and wine. She went into the vintage bar where the local college team and high school team logos were all over the wall. There were five big TVs throughout the place, including the one behind the bar. Every piece of furniture there was wooden and all the tables were stained with grease and peanut shells laced the floor. Aja sat down at the bar and a tall red-headed, blue-eyed Irish piece appeared out of nowhere from behind the bar. "Hi, honey. My name is Flannery, but everyone calls me Flan. What can I start you off with to drink?" Aja thought to herself "Damn is every man of every race fine in North Carolina. " She half smiled at her thoughts and asked Flan to give her a s*x on the Beach slushy. "You got it sweetheart and let me know when you're ready to order, okay?" "Flan, what y'all wings like around I'm from Jersey and I don't know if y'all can top ours now." Flan turned to Aja with this big Ole grin and said: "Baby I promise you New Jersey can't offer nothing better the what we have in the south." Aja got a little flustered because it didn't feel like Flan was talking about no damn wings. So Aja ordered the 12 piece sweet chili reaper wings with fries and slaw. She loves hot wings, the hotter the better and they sounded like they were going to have her ass on fire. Flan looked at her and said: "I'll be sure to keep your glass full sweetheart, cause you need it." A few minutes went by and other guests had Flan's attention, so she decided to watch the baseball game on the big screen behind the bar. Not a lot of people knew, but baseball was Aja's thing. She drove to New York and had season tickets every year to watch the Yankees play. Flan finally came back with her food. The smell of her wings immediately made her want to run. She couldn't wait to dig in. She and Flan talked while she ate. He was very amazed at well she was handling the heat from those wings. "So Ms..... " Flan began as he slowly realized he didn't know Aja's name. "It's Aja." Aja said, stuffing a fry in her mouth. "So Aja, what bring a beautiful city soul like you down to our part of the woods? If you don't mind me asking," Flan said, trying not to sound like he was prying too much. "Well, Flan, I needed to get away before I murdered somebody, so I jumped into my car and started driving until I got tired and here is where I ended up." Aja said looking up Flan expecting him to be pitying her. Flan said: "Yea, I could understand that, I did my share of running as well. I was raised here in North Carolina, but my life was not great, so the first chance I got I ran all the way to Chicago and became a lawyer. Then I had to run back because I hated being a lawyer and it was too damn cold in the Chi. So I quit my job, bought this place with a good friend of mine who is like my brother, and this place is where I find peace. I hope you find some peace, Ms. Aja. Alright darling, I had better get back to work before the bossman fires me. After Aja had stuffed herself as full as she could stuff it before, she asked for a-go box and also ordered a steak dinner with steamed broccoli and a loaded baked potato for her dinner tonight, because Aja already knew once she got back to the hotel she was not coming back out. Aja paid for her food and left Flan with a nice tip. Of course he told her to come back anytime and she promised she would. Aja had to go walk some of that food, so she picked her phone up and pressed the side button..."Alexa navigate me to the mall." she said into the speaker. Turns out the mall was right around the corner, so she found a park and went inside. Okay okay North Carolina, she thought to herself as she admired all the stores from Abercrombie and Fitch to Aldo to Valentino's. Aja's platinum card was burning a hole clean through her Hermes Cross body as she strolled from store to store. By the time Aja left that mall she was well over five thousand in the red on that platinum card, but it felt good to shop and she needed that. She deserved this. Aja walked back to her car and loaded all the bags into the car on top of the luggage she had in there. When at the hotel, Mr. Overton was standing at the front desk still looking like a god, but there was tiredness in his eyes or stress even. Whatever it was didn't stop him from Aja over the desk. "Ms. Colton, did you enjoy your day out and about?" He asked. "Please Mr. Overton call me Aja. My mother's name is Ms. Colton," she said with a sly grin. "Ms....Aja, do you need help with any bags? I will have the bellhop help you with your things and don't worry about his tip. I got it." Mr. Overton asked Aja. Aja thanked Mr. Overton and went up to her room as Mr. Overton and the bellhop unloaded her car and bought the bags up to her suite. As soon as they unloaded all the bags, Aja watched sweat roll off Mr. Overton's brow as he licked his lips and brushed his hand across his cold black beard. Mr. Overton sent the bellhop away as he couldn't bring himself to leave because the scent of Aja's Chanel No. 1 had him stuck. She walked over to him with a towel to wipe his sweaty face. Aja had to stand on her tippy toes a little bit to reach the top of his head. As she stood in front of him, Mr. Overton gracefully held onto her waist to steady her. His touch felt like lighting bolts touching her and her rose petal got a little... not a lot moist. She felt herself overheating, so she pulled away and quickly said: "Okay, I think that'll do it. Thank you so much for bringing your bags. Are you sure I shouldn't tip the bellhop?" She asked Mr. Overton as they headed back to the door. "No, Aja, I got it, he's fine. You relax and enjoy the rest of your evening." Aja locked the door behind Mr. Overton, but she couldn't get how softly he held her by the waist out of her mind. She went laid in the middle of the bed and dozed off to sleep in peace.
