Confrontation with Ethan

1074 Words
Despite the complications that Amelia had, her pregnancy progressed relatively smoothly with Sarah's help. On a winter's evening, after hours of labor and a brief scale that required an emergency cesarean section, Amelia gave birth to a healthy baby boy. She named him Liam. Holding her son for the first time, Amelia felt an overwhelming rush of love and purpose. His tiny finger curled around hers. It was as if all her pain had faded away. Liam was present now, and she vowed to give him the best life possible. When Liam turned one, Amelia knew it was time to start earning her income. She took on various part-time jobs, working at a café during the day and doing freelance data entry at night while Liam slept. It was exhausting but every dollar she earned felt like a step towards securing a better future for her son. Her budget was tight and there were days when she skipped meals to make sure Liam had enough. Yes, she never complained. Liam's face when she managed to buy him a new toy or take him to the park made every sacrifice worth it. By the time Liam was five, he was a bright, curious child who adored his mother. His sharp mind and enduring smile reminded her of the night of passion she had with the stranger. Though it gave her sleepless nights, there was no point dwelling on the past. She knew that resources were limited where she was, and she wanted the best life for Liam. She discovered that Willowbrook, her hometown, had experienced significant economic growth in recent years. With each striving business sector and excellent schools, it seemed like a perfect place to start anew. It wasn't an easy decision. Returning to Willowbrook meant Amelia would be confronting the ghost of her past, her family, Emily and the memories she had worked so hard to bury. But her future expectations outweighed her fears. “Good evening”, Amelia greeted Sarah. “I think it's time for me to go back”, Amelia said, her voice steady but tinged with emotion. Sarah nodded, her eyes soft with understanding. “You have grown so much, Amelia. I know you will do whatever it takes to give Liam the life he deserves. Just remember you're stronger than you think”. With Sarah's blessing, Amelia parked up their belongings and made a journey back to Willowbrook. Amelia stood at the age of Willowbrook, her old hometown, with a mixture of emotions swelling within her. The memories of betrayal and heartbreak still lingered, but she also had a flicker of hope. Holding her son Liam's hands, she felt a renewed sense of determination. Liam, with his dark hair and piercing gray eyes, swore up at her curiously. “Mommy, is this where you grew up?” “Yes sweetheart,” Amelia said, brushing her hair gently. “It's where I used to live a long time ago. Things are different now though”. She kept her arrival quiet, and was not willing to alert her family or anyone who might cause unnecessary drama. She headed to Helen's apartment after five years with her son. Helen nearly spilled her coffee when she opened the door and saw Amelia standing there. “Amelia!” Helen squealed, pulling her friend into a tight hug. “Oh my gosh, it's been years! And who is this handsome little man?” “This is Liam”, Amelia said, smiling as her son shyly hid behind her. “He's five now”. Helen crouched to Liam's level, her warm smile instantly putting him at ease. “Hi Liam. I'm aunt Helen. I have heard so much about you”. Helen invited them in, and they spent hours catching up. Amelia shared the highlights of her life over the past 5 years. Helen in turn updated her on all the changes in Willowbrook. “Richard is married to your step-sister Emily,” Helen said. Amelia looked like she expected it. She quickly waved off the feeling of sorrow she felt, remembering the pain they both put her through. “You have picked a good time to come back,” Helen said, trying to change the topic. The city is booming and has plenty of opportunities. Actually my company's hiring. I could put in a good word for you”. Amelia hesitated. “Are you sure? I don't want to cause any trouble for you.” “Of course! You have been through enough, Amelia. " It's time for something good to happen.” Amelia's heart swelled with gratitude. “Thank you, Helen. I don't know what I'd do without you”. A few days later, Amelia went to get some items from the grocery store close to them. She was ready to pick up some items in her cart when she bumped into a man. He was putting on a luxury suit, had a nice cologne and one could tell that he was really wealthy. “Can't you see where you're going?” the man sounded harshly. “I'm sorry, but we bumped into each other, so it's partially your fault as well. " Don't make it seem like I'm the only one at fault here”, Amelia said, showing no sign of fear. Her response made the man really furious. “Look here, young woman, do you know who you're talking to? I guess you don't because if you do, you'll be bowing down and pleading for forgiveness”, Ethan uttered strongly. “I might not know who you are, but I know for sure that you are in the wrong and should apologize for your actions, not to claim right when you are at fault,” Amelia boldly replied. Then a bold utterance came from behind, echoed “Who should apologize to you? I hope you aren't referring to the mighty Ethan Prescott, the heir of the Prescott Empire?” It was one of Ethan's bodyguards. His features were intimidating because he looked really huge and muscular, but Amelia wasn't afraid. When Ethan noticed, his bodyguards were marching towards them. He believed that his features must have made Amelia really frightened and that was enough for him. “You don't have to waste your strength on this low-class, you should preserve it for something more worthwhile than this”, Ethan ordered.
