“What does this even mean? Are they not renewing my work permit? Do I have to leave the Cove?” I scan the printed email from Ryan’s lawyer looking for evidence that they’re going to boot me out of the country.
“It means that Employment and Social Development Canada is requiring an assessment of your job before they will approve you staying another year. Means they want to make sure the job shouldn’t be filled by a Canadian citizen instead of an American.”
“But … but this is my job. We’re all from the same continent. I’m a good person. I filed my Canadian taxes. Don’t the work permit people know that I am a positive addition to this country?”
