The loud buzz of my phone jolted me awake. I scrambled to check the time. “Oh, s**t!” I dashed to the bathroom for a quick shower. It was six-thirty in the morning. I had to be at the company before seven. It was my first day of work, and I couldn’t afford to be late. Five minutes in the shower, three minutes to get dressed. No time for makeup. I rushed down the stairs and called out for the driver. “Why are you in such a hurry?” I froze at the sound of Viel’s voice. He was lounging on the couch, a magazine in hand, a steaming cup of coffee on the side table. “I overslept… and it’s my first day,” I admitted, panic rising. I was about to leave when he called out, “Come here!” “Viel, I have to go. I’m going to be late. What will my future boss think? First day, and I’m already late?
