Chapter 6

893 Words
Katie slurps on her strawberry smoothies as she stares blankly at her half-eaten fries. She needs to start somewhere for the investigation, and she has absolutely no idea where. All the information given by her Boss is not helping at all since it’s all about the history and daily life update of Caleb and Jennifer Smith. There was something that caught her eyes, it was the files about the murders surrounding Solomon Inc, she tried not to think much about it, but that was probably her first lead in this case. Katie gobbles up the rest of the poor fries on her table and makes way back to her office. She rereads the files about the murders, there were 14 deaths, she figures there must be something about it. She recognized some of them; Jackal Stones, Brady Wellington, Patrick Romano, they are three of the biggest drug dealers’ leaders that she knows. It makes absolutely no sense as she reads through the results of the autopsies, all the inflicted wounds are, like the Boss said, fatal and deadly. Their killers are no joke. She scans the pictures carefully, noticing the long deep cut on their throats that look similar to each other. From what she collects, not only they suffered before death came for them, but the killer is the same. One killer killed them all. It’s weird, even though they crossed path with her Boss sometimes ago, but it didn’t actually lead to the annihilation of them all. They might be annoying pricks, but Katie knows their fighting skills are no joke either. So how did they get killed with their throats slit open, not to mention in similar pattern too? Is there any clan out there who also wants to wreck Solomon Inc? Did Stones, Wellington and Romano involve in the leakage? If they’re involved, the killer shouldn’t come from within Solomon Inc? How wide is the connection that Solomon Inc have across the underworld? How many assassin agents are deeply connected to them? How in the hell can they remove the three big drug dealers? Katie is deep in her thought when Dussel’s cough brings her back. “Oh, hi.” Katie says awkwardly. “Hello, Campbell. Any progress with the case?” “None, nope, not yet.” She decided to keep the information to herself before confirming it, it’s bad to actually gives out fake leads, and what she has is just a whole lot of questions.   “Good, so I guess you’re free now?” “No, I mean I still got a few documents to read about.” Seriously, is Dussel dumb? If he’s trying to take her out, she swears she will punch the hell out of him. “I see, actually my men sort of stumble into something that looks like a lead to our case, since you’re busy with the docs I guess I will just go myself.” “On second thought, Sergeant, I think I can read the docs later.” Katie sure is fast in changing her mind, but she wants to gets on a lead to this case ASAP. She grabs her leather jacket and follows Dussel to the crime scene. Horrible. That’s the word that comes to her mind when she sees the scene in front of her. Three bodies lumped together, when people don’t pay much attention, she swears they won’t know if that’s humans’ bodies. Clara from the forensic team has come and takes a few snaps of the mangling bodies. Their black attire is drenched in blood, not sure whose blood that is. One of Dussel’s man tries to separate them, the blood is no longer fresh, but judging from the stiffness of their bodies, these poor guys probably met their deaths today in morning. Clara inspects each of them carefully. One of them has a bullet through his skull, the other one has three holes on his head, and the last one has his throat sliced open. Katie snaps out of her thoughts, and quickly puts on her rubber gloves before squatting down to see the man with the throat open. This wound… she recognizes this wound. It’s the same wound that she had been thinking about a few moments ago. The killer is on the act again. Looking at how these bodies tangled up together, she assumes these three guys were killed by the same man. “Clara, can you help me investigate what kind of weapon is used to kill them?” “Aye, no problem missy.” Katie sighs, it might or might not be the first lead to her case. Her thought is suddenly disrupted by Dussel. “So, you glad I take you here?” “Yes, I appreciate it Sergeant.” “Do you have anything to share? I am afterall your partner now.” Katie huffs in annoyance. “I just thought the killer of these men might be the same with our drug dealer’s killer.” “Really? How is that so?” “Just look at the wounds, they practically look the same. The way the jugular muscles are sliced are identical.” “But that can be made by people who trained under the same coach.” “No, it’s my gut feeling.” “Careful, Agent, your gut feeling might lead you down to destruction.” Katie scoffs at the remarks, she throws away her rubber gloves before she goes back to her car. From afar she can see the tall building of Solomon Inc, and she can’t shake off the feeling of wanting to rips open to whatever secret hidden in that company. She starts off her car and decided to review the documents back in her flat.
