Ruby's POV
"I'm alright, love." Despite his reassuring words, I still didn't believe him. He had scratches all over his upper torso and gashes on his forehead, though they looked like they were healing. He looked at his brother with a frown and then back at me.
"He'll be fine," he told me, and I nodded. He pulled me in a sweet embrace again.
"Alpha Hayes," Evelyn, whom I had almost forgotten, called from the doorway.
"Why are you here?" My mate's voice was stern, and his eyes were icy.
"Well, Zylon got injured protecting me, so I wanted to stay until he wakes up to thank him properly," she said, her tone demure. There was something different about how she acted and spoke around Hayes.
"Get out," he ordered. Without waiting for a second command, she bowed and exited
