Chapter 2: Blood Awakening

653 Words
A dead silence fell over the ballroom, followed seconds later by an eruption of ruthless laughter. "She’s a goner. An Omega subjected to a forced bond-severing won't survive the night." "Serves the useless b***h right. Thinking she could taint our Alpha." The soul-shattering agony made me writhe on the floor like a dying animal. Tradition dictated that a rejected mate should crawl to their Alpha's boots, begging for mercy, or die of the sheer humiliation and pain. Sienna dramatically covered her mouth, though her eyes danced with malicious glee. "Oh goddess, poor Elara. Kane, wasn't that a bit too cruel?" Kane looked down at me as if I were a pile of rotting garbage. "The Dark Moon Pack needs a fierce warrior for a Luna, not a burden who needs a mate’s pity just to breathe." He was waiting for me to beg. The entire pack was waiting for me to die like the dirt I was. But just as the pain reached its absolute peak, the empty void inside me—the void they had mocked for eighteen years—suddenly exploded. It wasn't a wolf. It was a torrential, freezing, violently ancient power that smelled of ancient blood. It awoke like a slumbering dragon, surging through my veins with such tyrannical dominance that it instantly suffocated the agony of the broken bond! Slowly, using my blood-soaked hands, I pushed myself off the freezing marble. Under the shocked, wide-eyed stares of the entire pack, I—the dying, useless Omega—stood up perfectly straight. No one stands after a rejection ceremony. No one. I lifted my head, carelessly wiping the residual blood from my chin. I didn’t know that my eyes had shed their human hue, flashing a terrifying, unnatural crimson. I stared straight at Kane on the podium. My voice was hoarse, but it carried an icy, suffocating aura that even surprised me: "I, Elara, accept your rejection." Snap! The metaphysical chain of my pathetic submission was crushed into dust. "Urgh—!" Up on the stage, the color drained from Kane’s face. He let out an unearthly groan of sheer agony, his massive, six-foot-three frame crashing to his knees. A mouthful of boiling blood spewed from his lips, splattering Sienna’s gorgeous red dress. He clutched his chest, staring at me in absolute, paralyzing horror. The backlash of a mutually severed bond had just critically injured the strongest Alpha in the pack! "What... what kind of monster are you?" Kane snarled through bloody teeth. I let out a cold, hollow laugh. Without sparing the trashy pair another glance, I kicked the heavy oak doors open and bolted straight into the deadly shadows of the Dark Forest at the edge of our territory. But I had overestimated this newly awakened body. Less than ten minutes into the dense woods, the blood loss caught up to me. The world spun, and I collapsed face-first into the freezing mud. Worse, the heavy scent of my blood had drawn out the most repulsive creatures of the woods. Six Rogues, their eyes glowing a sickly green, stepped out of the shadows. Drooling and baring their yellowed fangs, they slowly tightened their circle around me. Was this it? Did I crawl out of hell just to be torn apart in the dirt? Just as the lead Rogue unhinged his jaw to rip my throat out— The wind stopped. A terrifying, suffocating pressure slammed down on the forest, so heavy it felt like it could grind the souls of every living creature for miles into dust. The six savage Rogues froze. As if encountering an apex predator from the dawn of time, their bones turned to jelly. They flattened themselves against the mud, whining and whimpering in pure terror. "Touch her, and I will eradicate your entire bloodline." From the absolute darkness, a low, raspy voice drifted out—dripping with lethal arrogance and boundless bloodlust.
