The air between them was filled to bursting with awkwardness. She had pointedly avoided him throughout the rest of that day and the next morning when they had prepared and arranged for the flight back to Atlanta. By tacit agreement, they had gone their separate ways once the trip commenced and it was only now that she made her way down the stairs of the jet as they landed that she heard his voice behind her, crisp and smart as he issued instructions to someone on the phone.
