Layla's point of view.
I stretched my hands as I yawned deeply, the soft morning light filtering through the curtains, casting a golden hue across the room.
"My head hurts," I mumbled under my breath. "Wait-" I looked at the sheets.
These aren't mine. Panic surged me as I looked around the room.
THIS ISN'T MY ROOM!
I bolted upright, confusion crashing over me like a wave. Panic clawed at my chest when I saw Alpha Jayden laid on the bed, half naked.
It was then I looked down at my body and realised I was naked. The memories from last night flashed.
Us..kissing and- I placed my hand over my neck where he bit me.
No no no no no!
It wasn't supposed to be him! How?! But last night, I could have sworn that I felt a mate bond. It wasn't supposed to be him!
I started trembling, swallowing hard. I pulled the sheets, using it to wrap my body. A twinge of guilt shot through me as I remembered Emery.
No no no no! What should I do?
Just as I was about to sneak out of the room, a voice spoke, making me halt. A voice way too familiar, one I wasn't ready to hear as I wasn't ready to face the consequences.
" Jayden!" I gasped, my voice barely above a whisper. He froze, his face paled as he took in the situation.
"What are you doing here? And why are you-wait... Were you in my room last night?"
"I-" I tried to speak, but the words got caught up in my throat. How do I explain this to me? I wanted to scream and cry that I didn't force myself on him, but how? How do I also explain that I knew we were bonded?
"Answer me!" He yelled, making me jolt.
Before I could summon the courage to speak, the door swung open. Emery's face fell the moment she understood the situation, she turned to face me with a deadly look in her eyes.
"Oh," her face twisted in hurt. "So this is how you repay me for being your sister?" She sounded pained, but a hint of venom and mockery could be heard.
"Layla, always wanting what's mine. You couldn't resist, could you?"
I felt blood draining from my face, "Emery, please it's not what you think..."
"You really expect anyone to believe that?" She glared at me. "Explain then, how come you're naked in my fiancée's room! You know, yesterday I was looking for you, but I assumed you were inside sulking and whining about how much of a loser you are, but no," she chuckled. "You were banging my man, isn't that so?"
Each word stabbed deep into my chest, twisting the knife of shame and regret.
Jayden stood up, but Emery raised her hand up in defeat, tears rolling down her cheeks.
“How could you? You're the one that said you wanted me, and now you cheat on me with my little sister?!"
"I don't know what happened!" He defended himself. "Yesterday.." He shook his head as if trying to fix the puzzle, but the frustration on his face showed that he was as confused as I was.
"Look, I don't know what happened, but your sister owes us an explanation. Me especially," he stepped closer to me. "How did you end up in my room? The person I was expecting was Emery, how come you come instead? f**k it, why did I drink so much?"
Before I could retort, my father walked in. "What's going on here?" His voice boomed.
"Layla slept with my fiancée!" Emery screamed.
"What?!" My father's face twisted in disgust as he stared at me and Jayden. "How?"
"I don't know, father," I cried. "I swear I don't know how!"
"You wake up in a man's bed, and you tell me you don't know how?" He ran his hand through his hair, frustration evident in his features. He then moved closer towards me, he grabbed my arm and scanned my neck with his eyes.
"He marked you," his voice was low, but audible enough to be heard by everyone.
"What?!" Jayden's eyes widened, he grabbed my arm away from my father's, tilting my neck to the side, he examined the mark he left.
"Wow," Emery scoffed. "You know what? I'm out." she ran out of the room, sobbing loudly.
"We will have a meeting now!" My father ordered before dashing out of the room, I fell on my knees, using my nails to scrap the floor.
I was doomed.
THREE DAYS LATER.
I was led to the car by Jayden's bodyguard. Immediately I got in, I was met with his icy glare which sent shivers down my spine.
"Sit still." He commanded as he got down from the car, I nodded and did as I was told.
My heart raced as I sat there, waiting for him to come back.
Three days ago, after the incident, my father ordered that Jayden take me as his bride. To him honor and dignity mattered more. If word were to get out that I slept with the Alpha, and he still went on to marry Emery. It could ruin the reputation of our pack, and the Alpha's.
More importantly, it didn't matter who Jayden married. The benefit my father wanted would still be given to him, so either way he didn't lose, neither did Emery. After the drama she pulled three days ago, she seemed to be extremely happy about not having to marry Jayden anymore.
I was the one who lost.
Not only did I lose my virginity to a man that didn't love me, he's also my mate. And he may never acknowledge that.
This was a terrible fate that I had to face alone. I finally found my mate, but now I wish I never did. How could the moon goddess be so cruel?
After a few minutes, he finally returned to the car, I shifted uncomfortably as he sat next to me.
"Start."
Immediately the driver started the engine. The tension stretched between us like a taut string. Hours dragged on, with nothing but the rhythmic hum of the ties on Asphalt.
When we finally arrived at the Alpha's realm, Jayden's palace loomed before us. I opened my mouth in awe.
It was huge, Gothic and beautiful. It looked so intimidating, for a building it demanded respect, just like its ruler.
Two maids followed by armed guards greeted us as we stepped out. Jayden dismissed the guards and assigned one of the maids to me.
"This will be your personal maid." He said to me, then turned to the maid. "Take her to her room, get her comfortable. But she'll stay there until I send for her." He commanded.
"Yes Sire," the maid bowed and took my purse. "Follow me ma'am."
As I was led through the hall, I stumbled upon a tall figure. Confusion crossed his features.
"She came with the Alpha King, I believe she's our Luna." The maid informed, immediately he regained his composure and bowed.
"Good afternoon," he smiled widely. "I'm the beta. My name's Dexter."
"Oh hi." I flashed a smile.
"Do make her feel comfortable." He told the maid before walking away.
I wanted to scream that I didn't belong here, but what could I do? Even though I didn't want to accept it, Jayden was my mate, and I hated that I was beginning to have a soft spot for him despite his ruthlessness.
