Holly and Simon had mixed feelings about going back to their Earth. Of course, they wanted to go home, but they would also miss their new sophont friends – they’d been through a lot together. However, they also had an important new mission. They’d seen a glimpse of a possible future – an ugly future.
Earth 1 was in a good place at the moment – as far as they knew – but, somewhere, there was probably a Sylas sophont who had been created without the emotion inhibitor and worse still, someone like Zlikovac. Just as Earth 2 would learn from Earth 1’s experiences, Earth 1 would need to learn from Earth 2’s mistakes and nip any problems in the bud. To that end, Holly and Simon – with the help of Sylas, who would travel to Earth 1 with them – would carry on where her grandmother had left off
