Alpha Maverick’s POV
.
To my astonishment, when I knocked on the door, it was already open. When I went inside, Lisa was holding her mother's picture frame.
"Lisa!", I yelled to get her attention.
She said, turning to face me, "Yes, Mr. Maverick." After hearing her formal greeting, my heart wrenched. I only wished that she would say "DAD" at some point.
Princess, you're not required to do it. I am aware of how much you despise our family, and now you plan to wed him.
She put her mother's picture frame there and remarked, "I don't want to talk about anything on this topic."
I handed Lisa her mother's diary, which Clara had asked me to do in case Lisa decided to remain with the group, and I added, "Here." What she had left for our daughter was a mystery to me.
"What is that?", she inquired as she took the journal from my grasp. After looking through a few of its pages, she remarked, "It's mom's handwriting."
"I'm going to deliver it to you when the time is perfect, like your mother requested me to. And I believe the moment is right.
"Are you aware of the writing she left there?"
"No. I did not read any books.
She gave a slight head nod and mumbled "Thank you" in a quiet voice. "Can you explain to me why Zoe fled her own wedding and left her partner?", she inquired. When I was ready to explain to her that Alpha Hades was not Zoe's mate, I felt Alpha Hades approaching the room. When I turned back, he was waiting at the door.
"If it's okay with you, Alpha Maverick, might I speak to her privately?", he prompted, causing my eyes to enlarge. Since when does he ask for permission? Lisa nodded when I glanced her way. So I went out of her room.
Angelisa’s POV
.
He entered and sat across from me before doing the unimaginable.
In a hushed voice, he said, "I'm sorry. Not very audible.
"Excuse me, please! I can't really hear you.
In his customary haughty tone, he continued, "I am very well aware that you heard me." And I won't say it again," he said.
I muttered "Whatever" and turned to leave when he stopped me and blocked my path. Now, what?", I questioned, feeling a little annoyed.
He commanded, "Don't you dare flee from this wedding like your sister."
How can he command me?
I snarled, "Listen, Mr. Arrogant, I am not your slave who will follow your order meekly."
"I understand you're not. He growled and took a step forward as I took a step back. "But you will have to do what I say. I kept doing this until my back struck a wall.
To prevent me from moving, he put both of his hands on either side of the wall. I made an effort to appear as brash as I could, despite sensing his hot, minty breath.
"You're visiting my wife, I see. So, best act like one going forward," he continued, adjusting the cloth that was covering my face behind my ear with his right hand.
"Exactly. Not your mate, but your wife. I muttered, pushing him away, "I am going to be merely your wife, whom you will easily toss out of your life once you find your mate, just as you werewolves do.
He was about to say something when I saw him open his mouth, but he refrained. Before leaving my room, he gave me a long look.
I covered my loudly thumping heart with my hand. I made a lot of effort to remain calm, but I failed.
Why did that occur?
Even though I was upset with him for acting in such a haughty manner, I couldn't let it fester.
Though it can come across as clingy, I felt like I had known him for a very long time. As though we were connected in some way.
Okay! Stop it right now! It had gotten out of hand.
I followed my gaze back to my bed, where my mother's journal sat. I took up the diary and moved toward my bed. I lightly touched it while grinning slightly. After all, this journal had recollections of my mom. When I opened the first page, my name was written in her handwriting beneath the words "For my princess, Angelisa."
'Hi Lisa,
If you are reading this, I assume that either you are planning to wed a werewolf or that you have made the decision to remain in the pack. I can also predict that the first option will most likely be the response.
I've always known that you can't avoid your destiny, and I'm sorry to say that it belongs here, among the werewolves.
After reading that statement, I raised an eyebrow and wondered why my mother would have said that.
Do not be perplexed, my child. There are so many things I want to tell you, but I can't because you are too young to grasp them. However, since you are reading this diary, I am confident that you are an adult lady.
Since I was aware that your father didn't abandon me on purpose, I first asked for your forgiveness for the wrongs he committed against me. We both agreed from the start that we would not stop one another if they found their soul mates, despite the fact that we were both coerced into the marriage for the benefit of our packs.
If I had found my mate again, I would have followed your father's example.
‘Again? What is she trying to say with that? I questioned.
My mother had scribbled this on a piece of paper, and when I touched it, I could feel that she had been crying as she did so.
"I've never told anyone this before, but with this diary, I found my mate," the speaker declares.
When I read that, I gasped. It's obvious that I did not anticipate reading this fact.
However, he perished in an unprovoked attack. I went over everything again twice, or should I say three times? "My wolf couldn't handle losing her mate, and even she left me along with him."
Your wolf?’
Does that imply that Mom was a werewolf instead of a human?’
I swear to God!’
Why didn't she tell someone about this earlier? I started to have a lot of questions, but up to this point, I had no answers. I started reading the diary's other entries for that reason.
All of this occurred before my marriage to your father. I wanted to tell him about it, but by the time I could have felt at ease around him, he had already discovered his soul mate and was no longer just my spouse. Therefore, I never had the chance to tell him about this.
Lisa, you are a kid who is incredibly special. Because of a single occurrence when you were a child, I kept you away from packs and werewolves, which was to my advantage at the time, but I now want to make things right.
Even though you think of yourself as a human, I know you won't be.
When I read that, my eyes sprang wide. It implies that I have lied to myself my entire life. When I flipped the page to read more, I discovered that the following few pages had been shredded and that the pages beyond that were empty.
Why the hell not?" I muttered in disappointment.
I snatched the diary up in annoyance and left my room to speak with Mr. Maverick.
Not "talk but ask' in reference to the missing pages.
"Are you going to discuss this with my friend?"", I heard my stepmother's obnoxious voice as soon as I left my room.
I first turned to face her before turning to where she was pointing with her hand, where I discovered some papers.
I said, "It belongs to me," and reached out to take the documents from them, but she resisted.
I'm aware, but I'll give it to you once we are married.
But... But I've already consented to the marriage, you say. I made an effort to convince myself to collect those documents as soon as possible since I was eager to read the rest of what was written there.
"Like my daughter, you have consented to the union, but you are free to leave, too. So enter, and from now on, you won't leave your room till the wedding." She forced me inside my room after saying this and locked it from the outside.
I wanted to slam the door and shout, but I knew it wouldn't help. Since this is her pack, her instructions would be carried out.
Additionally, I had already made the decision to wed that arrogant Alpha. If we got married, I would ask for those pages.
I thought to myself, "A little patience wouldn't hurt, right?" but I didn't hear anything back.
"Is there a chance I could be a werewolf?" I am, however, already 23 years old. When a werewolf turns 18 years old, they transform. Or perhaps I could be a human simply because my mother's wolf left her before I was born, transforming her into a human? I couldn't stop considering all the options. It wasn't until I heard my room door open and a few strange faces entered while wearing a bridal gown and makeup that I realized it was already evening.
That this was actually happening baffled me. When everything was said and done after an hour of work, I finally got dressed for my wedding. It was something beyond my wildest dreams, which is why it sounded so odd.
I had no notion that I would be an Alpha's Last Minute Bride when I returned after 17 years.
