My mind was in turmoil, a year of marriage to this man. A complete stranger and in return, my brother would get the surgery he desperately needed.
The thought made my stomach twist.
"I'll do this for Leo," I silently told myself.
“Over and over again”
Taking a shaky breath, I finally lifted my head and met his gaze.
The words felt heavy on my tongue, like they were dragging pieces of my soul away with them.
"I'll marry you."
The silence that followed felt endless.
For a moment, neither of us spoke.
Then he nodded once, as though he had known all along what my answer would be.
I couldn't believe I had just agreed to become this man's contract wife.
I had so many questions.
Why did he want a contract marriage?
What was he really after?
But none of that mattered right now. The only thing that mattered was Leo. Once his surgery was over and he was safe, I would find out everything I needed to know about this strange man.
Then it clicked.
I didn't even know my impromptu husband's name.
Honestly, agreeing to marry a man before knowing his name had to be one of the most ridiculous things I had ever done.
I mentally face-palmed myself.
"What is your name?" I asked shamelessly.
A look of amusement crossed his face, as though I had just asked the most obvious question in the world.
For a second, I thought he might laugh.
Instead, he answered.
"Salvatore Ricci."
His voice was flat and emotionless, as if he were simply stating a fact.
I blinked.
That name rang a bell.
I frowned slightly, trying to remember where I had heard it before. It felt familiar, almost as if I should know who he was.
But my exhausted brain refused to cooperate.
After everything that had happened today, I couldn't connect the name to anything.
So I simply pushed the thought aside.
I watched as he casually pulled out his phone and made a call. The moment the person on the other end answered, his expression turned serious.
"Move the little guy”
His voice was firm and commanding. It sounded less like a conversation and more like an order from someone who was used to being obeyed.
My PA Kai will reach out to you at the latest tomorrow. Make sure you’re already set.”
He said it calmly, already turning away before I could even process his words.
And just like that, he walked off. I stood there watching his back until he disappeared from sight. My chest was still tight, my mind still spinning.
But for the first time in months… there was something lighter in it.
Leo was going to get help. He was going to live.
That single thought made my legs feel almost weightless as I slowly made my way toward his ward.
Part of me was so overwhelmed with relief that I almost laughed, while the other part of me still couldn’t shake the nervousness crawling under my skin. But right now, I refuse to think about that.
Leo came first.
“Leo… you can finally receive treatment,” I whispered to myself.
I couldn’t wait to tell him.
I was so happy that even the walk to his ward felt unusually long, like the hallway kept stretching just to test my patience. When I finally got closer to his room, I suddenly noticed nurses stepping out, pushing a stretcher.
My heart dropped instantly.
Panic shot through me like electricity.
“No…”
I rushed toward them.
“Where are you taking him?!” I asked breathlessly.
“I still have until tomorrow to pay the money! I’ll pay for it, I promise!”
The nurse stopped immediately, looking at me with calm eyes..
“Calm down, Miss Brown,” she said gently. “The payment has been cleared. We’re just moving him to the VIP section.”
For a second, I couldn’t understand what she was saying.
My mind refused to process it.
“What… what?” I stammered.
“VIP room?”....
