CHAPTER 10AS DAN MCGRATH closed Pegott’s door and stood by, waiting until Miss Myrtle Grimstead appeared, he became aware of the mouse-grey figure of Mr. Evan Pinkerton two steps down the stairway, his brown bowler in his hands, pausing there, looking at him across the stair rail.
