"Let's go." I gave him my hand.
I left the table, clutching Dillan's hand, and headed straight for the café exit. Soon I pushed open the door of the café, a cool gust of air hitting my face. Even though the sun was already high in the sky, it was still gloomy outside. Then we turned in a completely different direction than I expected. I walked patiently beside him, but when my patience ran out I turned my head towards Dillan.
"Where are we going?" We turned down a narrow town street.
"You're the one who live here, told me." Dillan looked into my eyes.
"This lane leads to the castle, and it's a twenty-minute walk." I recognised the street we were on.
"And what's the nearest tall object in front of us." Dillan pointed a finger to where the horizon was visible at the end of the street.
I raised my eyes slightly and turned my head in the direction he was pointing. My eyes fell on one of the former castle towers. It's just an old tower that the people of the town don't care about anymore. It is forbidden to go there to avoid the risk of life if the tower falls or breaks down. It is probably older than even the castle itself. I really should look into the history of the town.
"The ghost of the old tower." the name of the building immediately came to my lips
"Have you ever been to the top?" Dillan's finger rose to the very top of the tower.
"No. No. It's off-limits up there." I said confidently.
"Come on, I'll show you what you're missing." Dillan quickened his pace towards the tower.
"You don't think it's dangerous up there?" I raised an eyebrow as I looked at Dillan.
"There's nothing to be afraid of with me." Dillan's calm voice brushed his lips.
"Says the guy I'm seeing for the first time in my life." I smiled.
After a few minutes of silence, we were close. Finally a large tower loomed in front of us, and to see it in its full size I had to raise my head above my eye level. Dark, huge bricks, most of them blackened. A few creepers lining the walls. A wide staircase led to the inside of the tower, where it seemed quite dark.
"Come on." Dillan climbed the first step
I hesitated for a second, but followed him. I quickly scrambled up the steps and got inside the tower. My eyes were drawn to the narrow staircase that led ever upwards.
"Lift your head up." Lorcan looked up.
I did as he said and my eyes were drawn to an immensely beautiful sight. The light filtered in through the windows and fell on the walls of the tower like a sun bunny.
"The road is not finished here." Dillan laughed.
"Don't tell me we're going to climb up?" I sneered at Dillan.
"I'll be waiting for you." Dillan said.
I turned to look and he was already standing on the third step of the landing, looking at me with a small smile. I shook my head and smiled and followed him. I have no idea how many floors this tower has, but it was quite a long way.
"Not much left." Dillan climbed in front.
"I hope the view I'll see when I get up will be worth this ordeal." I whispered under my nose.
"It won't be, you can push me off the tower." Dillan laughed out loud.
"Not a bad deal." I laughed.
"Isn't it surprising? Dillan's voice sounded a little further away than it always did.
Finally when my eyes adjusted to the light I understood what he meant. I could see my whole town in the palm of my hand. All the streets, the roofs of the houses, the cars, the people in a hurry - the view was simply enchanting.
"Unrepeatable." I smiled.
"It's up to you Sara, should I jump off the tower or not?" Dillan sat on the edge.
"The view justifies the means by which I had to get up here. Your life is safe." I sat down next to Dillan.
"I'll answer your two questions if you will answer my one?" Dillan stared into the distance.
"Okay, then why are you in this town?" I looked in Dillan's direction.
"I came here to study." Dillan explained simply.
"Your ring?" I smiled, looking into Dillan's dark eyes.
My gaze drifted to the red ring that rested on his hand. Dillan lifted his hand in front of him and twisted the ring on his finger.
"A family heirloom." Dillan stared at the ring for several seconds.
He lowered his hand and a smile tugged at the corner of his lips as he turned his eyes to the horizon. After an awkward silence, I rose from my sitting position and leaned against a nearby wall.
"Your necklace, what's its story?" Dillan turned to me over his shoulder.
I ran my fingers over my necklace that was hanging around my neck. A million little memories of my mother flashed through my mind.
"It was my mom's." I smiled.
"It's a nice memory." Dillan up from his seat.
He leaned next to me and together we looked out at the city skyline. Soon the silence was shattered by my phone ringing. I pulled my phone out of my pocket with Dad's name flashing on the screen.
"Hello?" I said in a calm voice.
"Sarah can you come home, we need to talk." Dad's serious voice sounded on the other end of the phone.
"Dad is something wrong?" I worried.
"We'll talk when you get home." Dad ended the phone call.
Without waiting, I turned to walk towards the door and the stairs that led to the first floor.
"Do you need to go home? Dillan followed.
"Yes." I turned and nodded over my shoulder.
The next thing I could feel was my whole body hitting something hard. I instantly fell down without keeping my balance.
"Come on, come on, what do we have here?" said a stranger voice.
"Cassian?" Dillan's voice was full of surprise.
"Long time no see, brother." Cassian laughed.
"What are you doing here? Dillan furrowed his brow.
I stood up from the ground and glared at the culprit who caused me to fall. In front of me stood a guy with blonde hair. A short beard covered his stern features. His pale green eyes looked straight into Dillan's, and there were a few lines etched in his forehead. He wore a black leather jacket, dark trousers and a white sweater. His arms were crossed over his chest and a massive blue ring rested on his ring finger.
"I came to see how my brother was holding up." Cassian leaned against the doorframe.
"It's about time. Step aside." Dillan glared angrily at Cassian.
"Don't you miss me?" Cassian said in a hurt voice.
"We'll talk somewhere other than here, now it's time for this lady to go home." Dillan glanced at me.
"And who is she?" Cassian looked at me intently.
"None of your business brother." Dillan said angrily.
"Perfect place to commit suicide isn't it?" Cassian stared at me incredulously.
"Everyone would probably think this girl committed suicide, she'd get a little push from me." Cassian said.
Cassian took a step towards me, looking me straight in the eye. I took a step back, scared, so my back was against Dillan who was standing behind me. Dillan took my hand and pulled me back a little, reversing our standing positions.
"Don't make trouble." angrily Dillan glared at Cassian.
"Agreed. It's about time." Cassian suddenly blurted out.
All I could see was him winking at me and disappearing into the gap in the tower. I took a big gulp of air into my lungs filling them with air. I didn't feel that I was holding my breath.
"Come on, let's get out of here." Dillan looked me in the eye.
Ten minutes later, we were walking down a well-known city path. My mind was spinning with thoughts from what had recently happened in the tower. Dillan hadn't said a word since then, and I could feel how tense he was.
"You have a brother?" I finally broke the silence.
"Yes." Dillan's calm voice reached my ears.
Even though his voice was calm I couldn't tell that about his body language which screamed the opposite. The tight jaw and clenched hands into fists spoke of the anger and anxiety Dillan was probably feeling right now.
"I think you'll find your way home from here." Dillan froze in place.
"Yes." I stepped up beside him.
I could see his muscles relax and a small smile appear on his face. He stared into my eyes for a few seconds as if searching for something, and then finally spoke:
"I'm sorry for the misunderstanding that happened out there" Dillan stood there turning to me.
"You'll have to explain next time." I smiled.
I turned to walk towards the house. A few steps later I heard Dillan behind me:
"I hope we'll meet again." Dillan's voice sounded confident.
I didn't say anything, but just walked faster towards the house where my dad was already waiting for me. Fifteen minutes later I was at the door of my house. Without waiting, I opened it wide and entered the hallway.
"Dad?" I exclaimed.
"We're here, come into the guest room." Dad's voice came.
I hurried to the guest room with a quick step. I was a little disturbed by what I saw because I didn't understand what was happening.
"What happened ? I looked at Lucy and Dad.
Before my eyes I could see Lucy sitting crying and Dad and Finn discussing something seriously.
"Leo..." Lucy's voice was full of pain.
"What about Leo?" I sat down next to Lucy.
"He was found dead today." Dad looked at me.
