Because Polly’s adventurous behavior enlivened what could be boring dorm life, there was no shortage of friends who joined in support positions for the covert mission. Celie and Aggie, along with Polly’s sister Nonie had key roles in providing cover for Polly. Since the young nurses had never met Nonie, the mission was more risky. Added to this was the dodgy ability to get a phone call in the dorms. Working at the hospital gave better access to phone calls, but Celie’s concern in the success of their endeavor grew as the night became later.
“Celie, things finally seem quiet with all our patients tucked in and quiet for now,” the head nurse on the medical floor, said. “Mind if I take a break before charting?”
“No, go ahead. I can handle it,” Celie told her supervisor and glance
