Chapter 18
“This is so pretty,” Pauline remarked, “almost magical like today.” She snuggled closer to Johnny, who wrapped his free hand around her, pulled her close, and kissed her cheek. In the back seat, Cy winked at Aggie, and they cuddled for warmth.
He whispered, “Told you so.”
When the car shimmied a little, Johnny put both hands on the wheel. “This snow is really starting to come down,” he said. “If it keeps up, we’ll have a good cover on our wheat, Cy.” A conversation about farming ensued, so Aggie leaned forward to chat with Polly.
Outside of Polly’s apartment, Johnny wrapped one arm around her and lifter her face to his. “Thank you for coming today.” He pulled her closer as she shivered.
