Eulalie Arsenault Is Dying
Eulalie Arsenault is dying. It seems like only weeks ago she was hiding Alcide’s walker so he couldn’t get away from her and complaining in her firm voice that he was im-po-seeb and going to Grover Cronin’s and to choir practice. Now, either Rosa or Priscilla is there part of the day to tend to Alcide—the Fahey woman used to go, but the agency came one day and found she had tied Alcide to a chair. Hospice comes to tend to Eulalie.
She and Priscilla have taken to accompanying Alcide downtown while Eulalie sleeps, to tire him out so he’ll take a long nap afterward and allow them time to fix his supper and do the wash. Usually her day falls on Thursday and she considers it her happy day, though it’s sad to see Eulalie so brought down by her cancer, which is
