Mama puta, said Mondo awakening after the second fall, and she couldn’t keep from bawling over this as she walked along. Poor little man, didn’t know what he was saying, and yet it hurt her. Bawling, bawling, she came finally to the little abasto at a turn in the road, and there was a light in the front window. Someone up to start the stove? It would have been nice to go in and ask for some milky coffee, but all the money she had was for the bus. Also she knew it started before the first light, and what if she missed it for sitting down inside? The road turned left and up just past the little store, she felt it with her feet. A hard climb, she tried to put little Mondo on his feet for a bit, but he was too tired and she had to pick him up again. If she could only see some other stove fire
