Alexia knew she would be ambushed sooner or later.
What she couldn't understand was why.
How could greed cloud the minds of people till they couldn't see past this small advantage.
The lure the game set up was okay. By they never declared openly that the defaulters would be killed. They dropped a piece of meat, that did not mean everyone should scramble for it.
If everyone just run to the finishing line, the ones that couldn't get the orb would at most, be punished with a hard pat on the back.
Everyone knew that, but that's not the reason they were going to jump right into danger regardless. It was due to greed!
Those fuckers wanted more points to purchase more items. If they had weapons with them, they could pressure others to do their bidding... Becoming lords themselves.
It was always the best to have a headstart. Because then, you can continue your pace while hindering the person behind. Life was thus... Not fair at all!
Alexia did not want to think too much. She had lots on her plate already. Maybe her manager would've found someone else. Her fans would've seen a new rising star on Spotify and have probably already drawn her tattoos on their arms.
If she could go back, to continue singing. Maybe, people won't leave her for another, or she could get enough money to continue blocking off the harsh reminder of reality.
But she knew things would never remain the same. Her manager would most definitely, pocket a lot of her dough, her fans were going to leave her someday and that was a fact, her mother was never going to talk to her.
But she was the most versatile. Alexia felt like even if she came around and saw everything was a dream or simulation of whatever powerhouse firm or secret establishment, she knew she had changed greatly in just this day.
That naive part of her that held on to thinking that she was a better person to the masses, was lost forever... No one had truly loved her.
Just fake promises and downright benefits. True love was—
“Yelp! f**k! Freaking f**k! I-I can't run without conversing my strength. I had thought the finish line would be reachable, but the Admin was not stupid to give three days if the mission was so easy.
On her wristwatch, she could see her position on the thick patch of forest trees. But the next safe point was probably thousands of meters away.
*Clap!*
She hit off a mosquito with a bit more force than she was supposed to.
Her ability was simple to understand, that is, in theoretical terms. Trying to replicate it in real life, was the stump she had tried to clear, added on to the fact that she could be ambushed at any time, she had to reach the finish line or she would be punished,
See, she has a lot on her plate.
*Shuffle*
A noise came from a tree four meters beside her, she twirled in the opposite direction for safety while looking wearily at a figure walking on.
————————————
Meanwhile, Kiragi was trying to be as silent as he could, but the reality was far off from his theoretical knowledge.
His knife was on his waist. He kept tapping it once a while to create a delusion of safety which he very much needed.
So far, he had not met with a soul, but he knew it was impossible to remain unhindered for long.
Only if he was the fastest, but that wasn't enough to guarantee his success. The weak would be preyed on. The strong would plunder... That's what this was all about.
“Who could create such a deadly game? And why?”
In this thick patch of forest, his vision was diminished and the slight fog that suspended on the air only made his vision blurrier.
The orb was in his backpack, along with a tent, torch, and his slightly bigger flask full of running lake water.
He had heard it gushing out while running, and had to thank his lucky stars. Although it wasn't the best source of water, there was nothing he could do since he couldn't make a fire to boil it.
“Every level of the game is at its best. Trying to withdraw the unlucky ones... This second level is not different.
The players were given three days to reach the finish point. But anyone with brains could see that they could reach there in two days.
With the threat of murderers hanging on their necks, no one would risk staying a second more than they can in this god's forsaken forest... But that is where they're wrong.
No one can stay fit for a whole day. At a point, they are going to tire themselves out... They'll look for where to rest, for where to call it a day.
While they sleep with fatigue, thinking they've left everyone behind, and the target is in sight... That's when we'll strike”
And by we, he meant him and everyone who has noticed this. Since there's a chance to be the Oriole, why in the f**k should he be that cicada.
He took his time passing through the woods to get important miscellaneous. Fruity-looking pods, more freshwater, he tried hunting for either sea or land meat, but he wasn't disappointed with his results since he wasn't placing all his house for a catch.
Finally, he nodded in accordance when his bag had some weight. He strode forward in great strides.
Although, underneath the covers of the larger leaves of these rainforest trees, the sunlight was almost completely blocked — the watch he wore wasn't so sophisticated after all. He could see the time, and date on it.
[ 17:00+
Day 1. ]
Though it did not leave any clue of where he was, or what day it was, he was happy to be granted the time. At least, he could latch on a plan based on these... He needed to hurry—
“Help! Help, Me!!”
A weak sickening voice called out a short distance away when he was just preparing to cross the bridge.
His face frowned in displeasure. Did that person have any idea how much chaos he or she could cause as the voice drew wolves closer...
Kiragi decided he was no saint, in the end, he turned decisively to leave the area, but the crying, man— it was a man— heard his footsteps and increase in his tempo.
“Please, stranger! Help me, please help!”
‘If you don't say anything would people think you are dead? mattaku! (Japanese word for expressing annoyance. It is usually muttered or said silently.) ’
Kiragi dropped his bag on the leafy greens and brown floor before moving to help the man who was sprawled on the floor.
“Friend. Friend, please help me, I hurt my leg over an animal trap, I think it's the jaw type. It hurts so bad!”
Kiragi stopped inches away from the man and looked on warily. The man noticed his hesitation and pleaded more, even to the point of wailing his eyes out,
“Friend! Why would you think I'll mean you harm? I don't even know how to fight. Am just a thin junkie loser. I-I don't know anything. I am a loser.
Just help me, I don't want to die!”
Kiragi tried to ascertain the tone of his voice, and he concluded that the man was truly asking for help. He did not have any other thoughts, he walked in,
“Where is it? What should I do?”
The area was dimly lit with the only light coming from the spaces between the leaves that had pierced through to make the bundles of rays of the sun crash down to mars. But 5:00 pm was already dusk for the source of light was dimming with every passing second.
This pushed Kiragi to prop down and do the dirty work by himself. He had a torchlight in his backpack, was it was good to leave that information out from the eyes of this guy.
“Oh, it hurts, it f*****g hurts! Are you pulling it out? Use your two hands”
“Am trying, okay? It's stuck, like it pierced through bone or something—”
Kiragi suddenly felt the force of a truck crashing down on him, he did not even have the chance to duck away.
*CLAMNN*
He tumbled, only stopping when he crashed on a tree with a loud thump! Sound.
“Naive fucker! Haha! I finally got my first kill.”
“......”
. The man shouting in glee noticed a detail or two that was different from his plans... The two details were on his body of all places!
There were holes on his chest and lower abdomen, and they were bleeding profusely.
“When did you stab me!? f**k! I'll be having you for xmas.
