[Leah’s P.O.V.] – Washington State
‘I trust you.’ Those words kept swimming around my thoughts. I haven’t trusted anyone in a very long time, especially a man. Yet something in his piercing blue eyes told me that I could. I had gotten in his car, something I swore I would never do, but again, I felt safe. Something about him made me feel protected, warm...
“Is it warm enough?”
“Eh... sorry, what?” I stutter in embarrassment. I wasn’t expecting him to speak.
“The car, is it warm enough? You were shivering when you first got in, and you are still shivering now.”
I didn’t even notice that I was. I feel warm... oh s*** he’s staring, say something Leah, say something not stupid... “I’m fine, thanks.” i***t. My teeth chatter, giving me away.
“You might be fine, but your body isn’t. Please take the blanket from the backseat, we won’t be much longer.”
Something about him thinking about my body sets a part of me on fire that I didn’t know still existed. I felt aroused. The burning between my thighs gets so uncomfortable I squirm, trying to find some relief. My savior flashes me a knowing smile. There’s no way he could know, could he?
“Where are we going?” I quickly try to distract him. It looks like it worked because he flinches.
“My... house,” he answers evasively.
No way am I going back to some stranger’s house, not after what I just escaped. “Can you just drop me at the nearest town, I can find a bus and...”
“Absolutely not!” the man cuts me off. I could have sworn I heard him growl. It’s the same noise I would often hear outside the door to my prison. I shake my head, clearing myself of those crazy thoughts. I’m just in shock, I try to reassure myself. “I just want you to be safe,” he continues, more softly this time.
“I know how to look after myself.”
“Didn’t look like it,” the man scoffs dismissively. That’s it. I need to get the h*** out of this car. Waiting for the right moment, I snap open the car door. At the same time, I eject my seatbelt and go to throw myself out.
The car swerves as the man grabs me, dragging me back inside. The car comes to an abrupt stop. I look at the man, he’s shaking, almost vibrating. He looks at me and his eyes are black. I have no idea what he is, but I need to get away from him. Lunging for the door again, he moves, too fast for a human, and slams it shut.
“Stop doing that!” he booms. This time I definitely heard a growl. I look at him wide-eyed. I should be scared. Why am I not scared? Either way, I stop trying to escape. He sighs in relief. “Thank you, I...”
“What are you?” The question escapes me before I realize I said it. I clamp my hands over my mouth in shock. I could have sworn I saw his eyes flash black. God Leah, what have you gotten yourself into now?
“I promise I will explain everything, but when we’re home... I mean, at my home...” he quickly checks himself. We’re home... those words play over and over in my head. Does this stranger think I’m going to live with him or something?
We continue the rest of the car ride in complete silence. Every now and then, I swear I can see him taking a peek at me from the corner of his eye. I won’t lie, I snuck a peek at him too when he wasn’t looking. He’s incredibly handsome, almost unnaturally so. He has beautiful sandy-blonde hair, the type of color that reminds you of tropical beaches. It’s a little long so it flops into his clear blue eyes. The way he smoothly pushes it back and then it gently falls back down is mesmerizing. It’s like the sand and the sea, continually meeting through waves.
“You’re staring,” he chuckles. My cheeks burn with embarrassment. What was he doing to me? I’ve never felt like this before. We fall back into a tense silence. The atmosphere in this car is almost electric.
“We’re here,” he announces, startling me. I try to regain my composure, simply nodding. For some reason, all my words have left me. I had been pretending to look out the window, but this is the first time I’d really seen what was outside. We were in the middle of a deep dark forest. Only a shining gold gate alluded to any sense of humanity being present. It was eerily silent.
I look over at my savior, my captor, I do not know who, and his face is stonily serious. A blank look crosses his face, and I could have sworn I saw his eyes glaze over. What is it with this man and his constantly changing eyes? The gate creeks open, seemingly all by itself. I try to rationalize all of this. He must have an electric sensor in his car. Yes, that’s it, the gate is automatic. That makes sense.
After a short drive, the winding road opens up from forest to beautiful green lawns. I can see small houses not too far off in the distance. “I thought you said we were going to your house...”
“It’s a gated community, of sorts,” he chuckles. The car stops abruptly. Well, probably not that abruptly now that I’ve stopped staring at him and see that we are right in front of the biggest house I have ever seen. It was more like a hotel than a house.
“This is your house!” I blurt out without meaning to. Stupid Leah, absolutely stupid.
“Well, it’s mine and my family’s house, but yes...”
“Your family?! As in mother, father, brothers, not like wife, kids...”
He chuckles again at my outburst. Turning to me, he looks rather amused, “only my father lives here now. He’s eager to meet you.”
“How does he know about me? You didn’t call anyone.”
“S***, I guess it’s time I tell you some things.”

[Christian’s P.O.V.] – Washington State
This strange girl in my car was driving me crazy. I know she is my mate, but I never expected the bond to be this intense. The way she hides her rose-pink face under a curtain of white-blonde hair when she’s embarrassed, the way her voice squeaks when I catch her off guard, the flutter of her thick lashes over pristine blue eyes when she sneaks a peak at me and thinks I don’t notice, everything she does is intoxicating.
She’s quiet and reserved. The way she hides under the blanket I gave her reminds me of a little scared mouse in its hole. I’ve never thought much of demure women. I wanted a strong mate, a powerful Luna. Yet something about the gentle strength that radiates off of her is so curious.
Then, just as I think I have her figured out, my quiet little dove fights me hard to escape. She fights me for her freedom. With absolutely no regard for herself, she attempts to fling her fragile little body out of a moving car. That fire in her, it’s completely infuriating yet so arousing. She is a puzzle full of contradictions. I feel I could spend a whole lifetime getting to know her and still want to know more.
My wolf was tearing at me, trying to get out, to just mark her here and now. He wanted her, possibly more than I wanted her. Her constant arousal wasn’t helping matters. Every time I think I scare her, it only seems to turn her on. It was driving Noah wild.
The ride was torturous. Her fresh pine and violet scent consumed my car and my mind. I was never happier and so disappointed that something had ended when we reached the pack gates. Her obvious excitement at our pack territory and then our packhouse has me elated. She doesn’t know it yet, but all of this will be hers if she accepts me. If she accepts me...
As we park up, she fires so many questions at me I let slip that my father is eager to meet her. I had mindlinked him at the gate that I am bringing my mate, a human, home. That’s why the gate looked unmanned, and there was no one out and about the territory. I do not want anyone to see her until she’s ready.
I’m hoping she’s too overwhelmed to realize my mistake, but ever my sharp mate, she does. “How does he know about me? You didn’t call anyone.”
F***... “S***, I guess it’s time I tell you some things,” I mumble, brushing my hair out of my eyes. I catch the faint smell of her arousal along with fear. What is that about? No Christian, focus. You cannot mess this up. “Remember you asked what I was earlier?” She bobs her little head. “Well, it’s hard to explain... where we are now, I’m like the leader, we all live together because we are a certain kind of... people... and...” Goddess, I’m messing all this up. I’m fumbling over my words like a teenager.
“Is this a cult?” She asks abruptly.
I stifle a laugh. I guess to humans this would appear as such. “My father is better at this than I am. Would you be willing to meet him and then together we can explain?” I’m pleading with her to say yes.
She’s too quiet for too long. Her eyes look blank, is she thinking or... “Okay,” she abruptly agrees. “I’ll meet your father, but if I don’t like what I hear, I want to be able to leave.”
“You’re not a prisoner here.” I don’t know what possessed me to say those words, but they bring a little smile of relief to her, and for that I’m grateful.
Exiting the car, she takes a look at the packhouse and then turns her stunning eyes on me. I know that look by now, she has questions she’s afraid to ask. “What’s your name?” She blurts out. I want to smack myself, how could I not have told her that, or even asked her that?
“Christian. You?”
“Leah.”
