Mikhail dialed Natalie’s phone. He had tried while packing his belongings but she hadn’t answered. He had thought about calling Vince, since his number would still be logged in his phone somewhere, but decided it best to try Natalie again once he was out on the road. He hoped they didn’t leave Portland before he got there, but thought he could at least arrange to meet them on the road if they were on their way back. After the third ring Natalie picked up.
“Mikhail, how are you?” Natalie asked. Mikhail heard the apprehension in her voice and felt it faintly and clenched his jaw.
“How should I feel?”
“What’s wrong?”
“I had a nice little chat with Zagreus about you and what you did to me.”
Mikhail heard Natalie mutter an expletive and curse Zagreus’s name.
