Alpha Damian and his peculiar mate

Chapter 9 - The rogues are watching

Third-Person POV

Damian had briefly smelled his mate again and looked around while at the table with Renee but didn't see anyone, which he thought was weird. He noticed a table outside had a family of 5 sitting at it. Renee said "Damian? Are you even listening to me?" Damian shook his head. He said "I'm sorry. I smelled something peculiar and was trying to see what the source was. What were you saying?" Renee sighed, annoyed that she wasn't listened to, but smiled anyway and said "What do you think about us being chosen mates? You would have a strong mate by your side to help you run the pack and we would be together. The elders agree that us together would be a good match. And it would add another alliance under our belt. But back to my toast. Thank you, Alpha, for being there for me in my time of need." Re-raising her glass. She looked at Damian expectantly. He had raised his glass but hadn't drunk the mock-tail that she had put the potion in. Damian said "That is why I asked you to come here tonight." Setting his drink down and purposely not drinking it. Renee said "Oh I knew you felt the same way." Damian said "Whoa, wait a minute Renee. Did you say that you have already talked with the elders?!" Renee said. "Of course. They had initially come by to talk to you about it and i let them know that we were casually seeing each other. They said that they were glad that you were trying to settle down. It's good for the pack, Damian." She smiled while saying. Damian set the drink down. He said "Look Renee, it's not happening." He wanted to be gentle about this with her, but she stepped over the line by going behind his back and talking with the council of elders. They had been pushing him and telling him that he had a deadline to take a Luna. However, as the Alpha, he knows the rules and the laws of the packs and knows that they are guidelines. Not a deadline and most packs have done away with that rule. These old men were stuck in the past. Also believing that women shouldn't be a part of the council as well. That they should stick to just taking care of their Alpha's, the pack and the Alpha's heir(s). They believe that Alpha should have their mates by the age of 21 and an heir by 25. That they should be from a strong bloodline and if they aren't, then fated mates should be rejected and a chosen mate that lives up to their outdated standards to replace them. Which, in all honesty, is a completely outdated view of things. Damian knew they would try anything to get their way with his pack, unfortunately.

Damian's viewpoint was that a person should be with their fated mate if possible. Fated mates make you stronger and there is no other love like that. It shouldn't matter the status or species that the fated mate was. Well, at least not to him. Believing in pure blood was a ridiculous notion in this day and age. His father pushed for them to take a elder woman to be a part of the council. To show them that it was a needed change, but the elders refused to hear about it. Damian was seeing more and more why they would never work as mates. Especially by going behind his back to try and push this mating. Rj had stayed in the kitchen area and talked with all the staff asking if they witnessed her adding anything to the drink. While they believed that Sheila was telling the truth, they needed to do their due diligence in case there was a witness to it. No one had seen her add anything exactly. So RJ went to the office with the manager, and they were going over the footage to see when she added it. Sure enough, it showed that she had added a small vial of some light glittery vial into the cup. RJ shook his head and thanked the manager as he shared a copy of it with himself. As well as instructing the manager to keep a hard copy in case it is needed in the future. RJ came out from the back area of the kitchen and stood hidden in a shadowy area, observing Damian and Renee. Renee said "Damian, I love you. I want to be your mate. I don't understand. This is something good." Looking at him bewildered. Damian said "I brought you here tonight to tell you how I feel. I care about you Renee." Just as he was about to say that she would never be his mate. The nasty smell of rogues hit both of them. Renee stiffened and looked towards the door where she saw 5 men entering the room. Dressed in dirty clothes and asking for a table. Renee looked back at Damian, "Please don't make a rash decision today. Let's drink and pay the tab and leave." Damian hadn't taken his eyes off of the rogues since he smelled them enter. Damian said "I am sorry Renee, but it's not happening. I do not care what the elders have to say about this subject. They refuse to change with the times. I will not take a chosen mate, Renee. I want my fated mate. The goddess doesn't make mistakes. I am sure you have a fated mate out there somewhere who is perfect for you, but that person is not me." Renee said "Let's not talk anymore about this right now. Can we please finish our drinks, pay the bill and go?" Clearly uncomfortable with the new patrons to the restaurant. Damian had mind linked RJ, who was also now putting his full attention to the group that had entered.

The rogues were talking quietly with each other and ordering beers. Handing the waitress a hundred dollars to cover what they were going to drink. Given some of the staff were also werewolves, they knew that this group could be fine and just here to have a good time. Or they could want to start trouble. In any case, they were being watched very closely. RJ silently listened as the group pointed to the family outside. He decided to travel out the back again and go around in front to keep an eye on the family sitting out there. Once he came around front. He noticed that the younger guy from the family looked familiar. Isaac scented RJ before the rest of the family. He looked and stood up. He said "The main reason I brought you all to dinner tonight was to let you know I got the job." Congratulations were said around the table. RJ decided to approach them and talk to them. RJ said "Isaac, is this your family?" Sonya looked up, shocked at the man that approached. He was handsome, and she could see what looked like a soft aura around him. She thought she was seeing things. Then as she looked around the table she noticed that there was this same type of glow, either brighter or darker on each person. Isaac said "Yes sir, this is my family." He went around the tale introducing everyone to RJ. Letting them know that he was the CFO that hired him today. August looked at RJ like he was a piece of meat to be devoured. Their parents showed respect with a small bow and neck barring that was barely noticeable. RJ knew it was because of his human sister Sonya. RJ said "Sonya, you submitted your application too, didn't you?" Their parents looked up at her shocked. They really didn't pay attention to her or listen that she was interested in working for the company. August stared in slight disgust that Sonya would even think about doing anything outside the house. This would not do as she needed someone to take out her anger that wouldn't expose her for being the totally horrible girl she was. Isaac said "I was actually thinking about taking you up on the offer of having an apartment that you guys own." Pleading with RJ to understand exactly what he was trying to say. Bewildered for a moment. RJ said "Oh yes, I see you looked thoroughly through your new hire paperwork. Yes, I will have Danielle get that taken care of for you tomorrow morning." Isaac breathed out a sigh of relief. Isaac said "Oh, I forgot to mention guys. I found my soulmate, she is RJ's secretary." Another set of congratulations went around the table. Isaac was smiling ear to ear when talking about Danielle. RJ asked Isaac if he could talk to him alone for a minute. He walked out of the eyesight of the rogues inside and told him about the rogues that had come in. They are drinking and watching them closely. So when they go to leave, he will help if need be. And to not take a direct route back to the house. Basically making sure that he knew something was up with them and to be careful. He also told him that Damian was in the restaurant right now as well. Watching and will tell RJ if they are doing any sort of odd action while RJ watches the family to make sure they stay safe. Isaac went back to the table and secretly mind linked all but Sonya, about the situation so that they could stay vigilant.
