Chapter 6 - Damian's day

Damians POV

Once Isaac was out of the office. We let Danielle know she could go with him to talk and figure out what they want to do with their relationship. RJ and I sat in the office talking for a bit before I needed to make my way back to the pack and pick Renee up for dinner. I dressed in a button down shirt and jeans. Both black in color. I knew that there was a chance she would cause a scene at the restaurant but this had to be done and I had to make sure that she knew there was no future for her as being my luna. I would talk with her about an alliance with her home back but they would have to change somethings for me to consider it and know their alpha that was not going to happen. I was ready before 6 but went down and talked with some of the omegas. They said Renee had left the pack lands right after we had talked in my office and hasn't been back since. I let them know that I was taking her out. But not as a chosen mate. An I would only have my fated mate as my Luna. The omegas seems to breath a sigh of relief and quickly tried to cover it up. I said "No need. I have heard the rumors and I have heard that she has been telling you all that she will be my Luna. I assure you that she will not be." They nodded and continued on with their duties. I knew they would spread the message around what I said directly and that is what I wanted. If she was holding out hope this should nip it. I hope that what I am hearing wasn't true about her mistreating them. I would deal with that another day once I have solid proof of it.

I waited in the foyer of the packhouse and saw her pull up. I walked down the front steps and she had on a decent dress. Fancy but definitely had more coverage then what she wore to my office earlier today. I asked if she wanted to take separate vehicles or ride together. She nodded to my truck so we went over. I held the door for her to get in and then went to the drivers seat and we took off to the restuarant. Once there we went in and were seated at a table they reserve me me when I bring guests. The waiter came over and asked us what we would like. He took our order, an since we already knew what we wanted for our meal we ordered it as well. Renee said "I am happy you decided to bring me here Damian. I was hoping this may be something we could do more often." I nodded trying to find my words to both keep the situation calm and not fully hurt her feelings. I knew I needed this said so she wouldn't hold out hope. I just wanted to at least eat dinner here before doing it. I know I am prolonging the inevitable but I wanted to cause the least amount of stress to the staff here in the restaurant. Our food came out and we silently ate. Renee had ordered the house special which was rice pilaf with miso-glazed salmon. She had a white wine with it. I had the steak and potatoes plate. They knew how i liked it and it was delicious. I wasn't drinking. Renee seemed disappointed that I wasn't partaking of the white wine with her. But I am being responsible and am the one driving. Renee said, "So you said we needed to talk. What is on your mind Damian?" Well. It's now or never. RJ mindlinked me that he was outside in case I needed him to get his cousin. I said "Renee. You have been with our pack since you were 10 years old. I know that you have been a good friend to me over the years." I took a deep breath because this was turning out to be harder then I thought it would be. Renee said "Before we talk more as I see your having trouble finding your words for what you want to say." She flagged the waiter down and ordered me a mocktail. The waiter advised that he would bring it right away. My phone rang, I excused myself for a second so I could step outside and take the call. It was one of the omegas from the pack. They never called unless it was important. The omegas name was Sheila. She said "Alpha, do not have any drinks with Renee. My cousin Jimmy who works in the pack house at her old pack said she was there and got some sort of vial. I am worried she may try to drug you as he overheard their Alpha saying that it will only work for 20 minutes once mixed in with the drink." I stood there shocked as this doesn't sound like something Renee would try. She knows that if I found this out she would be in the dungeons. RJ was next to me as he heard it too. RJ grabbed the phone "Sheila, are you sure? Why didn't you call earlier?" Shiela said "I just got off the phone with Jimmy and dialed you immediately Beta. I wish he would have called me earlier but I am guessing he had to make sure he was well hidden before calling me with this information." I said "Sheila, thank you for the information. I'll watch myself." I hung up the phone. RJ said "Honestly, I wouldn't put it past her." I said "Well it makes sense she would try something like that, because she just ordered me a mocktail. I just gave her a minute to put whatever that vial is in it now in coming out here to answer the phone. I am going back in. I don't want to believe she would do this. I want that cocktail tested. Go in the restaurant through the back and let the staff know that you need to see their security footage. I need to know for sure if she did this. Then I will make sure that we get a sample of it if she did to the lab as quickly as possible." RJ nodded and immediately headed to the back. I put my phone up and walked back in. Renee rushed over "Is everything ok with the pack? I was about to come out and check on you." I smiled. "Yes Renee, everything is ok with the pack. Some rogues were sighted near the northern ends. But while I was on the phone. Found they were just passing through the area and didn't actually get on to the land. So all in all it was a false alarm." Renee had stiffened when I mentioned rogues and I hated to do that to her, but it was the first thing I could come up with. She relaxed when she heard they weren't on the packs land. Given rogues had killed her parents I don't blame her. You never know if they are rogue by choice or banishment. I know not every rogue is evil. Or I wouldn't have hired Isaac today. I will always take each one on a case by case basis. Renee and I said back down. I saw the mocktail in from of me. She raised her glass. She said "A toast to the most handsome and fair Alpha I know. Thank you for talking your parents into taking me in when my parents were murdered." I said "I didn't talk them into it Renee. They saw that you were needing your family and were happy to have you." I raised my glass but had no intention on drinking it. She was watching me closer then normal. She leaned forward "Damian. I have a to admit. I have loved you since we were in high school. I'm sorry if I come off strong. I really think that we would be a perfect match. Especially with the elders wanting you to have a mate."
