Chapter 5: The Heir Awakens
The voice echoed through the mansion like a whisper from the grave.
"We know the heir is here."
Darkness swallowed every corner of the grand hall. The emergency lights had failed, leaving only the faint glow of lightning outside the tall windows.
Adrian instinctively pulled Isabella behind him.
"Stay close," he whispered.
His calm voice steadied her racing heart, but she could hear the tension beneath it.
The heavy footsteps began again.
One...
Two...
Three...
Someone was walking through the mansion.
Slowly.
Confidently.
Inspector Raymond reached for his flashlight, but it refused to turn on.
"What the..." he muttered.
"It's been disabled," Adrian said.
"How?"
"They planned this."
A loud crash came from upstairs.
Glass shattered.
The butler gasped.
"That's the east wing!"
Without hesitation, Adrian sprinted toward the staircase.
"Wait!" Isabella called.
He didn't.
She followed him despite the fear twisting inside her chest.
The corridor upstairs was silent.
Too silent.
One of the bedroom doors stood open.
Curtains fluttered in the cold wind.
The window had been broken from the outside.
Rain splashed across the polished wooden floor.
Adrian looked around carefully.
"They're gone."
Inspector Raymond arrived moments later.
"No footprints."
"No fingerprints."
"No signs of forced entry except the window."
He frowned.
"How is that possible?"
Before anyone answered, Isabella noticed something on the floor.
A small piece of folded paper.
She picked it up.
"What is it?" Adrian asked.
She unfolded it slowly.
Written in dark ink were just six words.
The Queen's blood belongs to us.
Her hands trembled.
"What does this mean?"
Adrian quietly took the paper.
His jaw tightened.
"It means..."
"They know more than I hoped."
The following morning...
News of the mansion break-in spread across the city.
Television reporters gathered outside Dawson Group headquarters.
Inside the company, shareholders demanded answers.
Adrian sat at the head of the conference table.
His directors argued endlessly.
"Our investors are panicking."
"The media believes someone is targeting the Dawson family."
"We need a public statement."
Adrian remained silent.
Finally, he stood.
"There will be no statement."
The room became quiet.
One director protested.
"Sir, our stock price—"
"I said no."
No one dared argue further.
Meanwhile...
Victoria Lang smiled as she watched the news from her luxury penthouse.
"So..."
"The mighty Adrian Dawson is finally losing control."
Her assistant entered.
"Miss Lang."
"Did our people succeed?"
"They entered the mansion."
"Did they find the girl?"
"No."
Victoria's smile disappeared.
"Then they're useless."
Her assistant hesitated.
"There is one more thing."
"What?"
"Our source says Adrian has started protecting Isabella personally."
Victoria slowly stood.
"Then she truly is important."
She walked toward the window.
"If Adrian is willing to risk everything for her..."
"Then she must become my greatest enemy."
Back at Dawson Mansion...
Isabella couldn't stop thinking about the strange vision.
The burning palace.
The little girl.
The pendant.
None of it made sense.
She wandered into the mansion library.
Thousands of ancient books filled the towering shelves.
One book caught her attention.
Its cover displayed the same crescent moon she had seen on the silver coin.
Curious, she pulled it from the shelf.
The moment she touched it...
Her birthmark burned again.
The book fell open by itself.
Its pages stopped on an illustration of a royal family.
A king.
A queen.
And a young princess.
Around the princess's neck hung the exact pendant that had been stolen.
Isabella stared in disbelief.
"This can't be..."
A folded letter slipped from between the pages.
Its paper had yellowed with age.
She unfolded it carefully.
The handwriting was elegant.
"To the final heir...
If you are reading this, it means our kingdom has already fallen. Never reveal your identity until the Crescent Pendant returns to you. Trust no one... not even those who claim to protect you."
Her heartbeat quickened.
Footsteps echoed behind her.
She quickly hid the letter.
Adrian stood in the doorway.
"What are you reading?"
She hesitated.
"Just... an old history book."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"You found the Royal Archives."
"The Royal... what?"
He looked at the open pages.
Then at her.
"I locked these books years ago."
She frowned.
"They weren't locked."
Adrian slowly walked toward the shelf.
"They should have been."
Far beneath the city...
Inside an underground chamber lit by hundreds of candles...
The hooded leader stood before the glowing pendant.
One of his followers knelt.
"My Lord..."
"The girl has begun remembering."
The scarred man smiled.
"Excellent."
"What are your orders?"
He looked at the pendant.
"When the moon reaches its highest point..."
"Bring Isabella Hart to me."
"Alive."
"And Adrian Dawson?"
The scarred man's smile disappeared.
"Kill him if necessary."
That night...
Isabella stood alone on the mansion balcony.
The full moon illuminated the gardens.
Everything seemed peaceful.
Too peaceful.
Suddenly...
A sharp pain shot through her shoulder.
She cried out.
Her birthmark glowed beneath her skin.
A brilliant blue light escaped through her blouse.
The wind howled violently.
Trees bent as if caught in a storm.
The fountain in the courtyard erupted into the air.
Windows throughout the mansion shattered at once.
Adrian rushed onto the balcony.
His eyes widened.
"Isabella..."
The glowing mark on her shoulder was no longer hidden.
For the first time...
He saw the symbol his grandfather had spent decades searching for.
He whispered only three words.
"I've found you."
