Chapter 11: The Red Moon Rises (Part 1)
The roar of engines echoed through the valley.
From the mouth of the cave, Adrian watched as a convoy of black armored vehicles climbed the rocky path, kicking up clouds of dust. Their headlights pierced the darkness like hunting eyes.
"They're here," Elias said quietly.
Mira tightened her grip on the wooden staff she carried.
"They found the sanctuary... and now they've found us."
Isabella stepped closer to Adrian.
"How many are there?"
He narrowed his eyes.
"Too many."
The first vehicle came to a stop less than fifty meters from the cave entrance.
Its door opened.
The scarred leader stepped out first, dressed in a long black coat. Around his neck hung the stolen blue Crescent Pendant, glowing with an eerie light.
Behind him, nearly twenty armed members of the Phoenix Order formed a line.
The valley became silent.
The scarred leader smiled.
"Adrian Dawson."
"It's been a long time."
Adrian drew his silver sword.
"Not long enough."
The man chuckled.
"You still choose to fight for a kingdom that no longer exists."
"It exists as long as its people remember it."
The scarred leader slowly looked past Adrian.
His eyes settled on Isabella.
"There she is."
"The last heir."
A chill ran down Isabella's spine.
She instinctively stepped backward.
The scarred leader bowed politely.
"Your Majesty."
"I've waited many years to meet you."
"I'm not your queen," Isabella replied firmly.
"No."
"You are something far more valuable."
Mira whispered urgently, "Don't listen to him."
"He twists every truth."
The scarred leader laughed.
"I only reveal them."
He took one slow step forward.
"Tell me, Isabella..."
"Did Adrian ever tell you why he chose you?"
She looked at Adrian.
He remained silent.
"Answer me," she said.
Adrian lowered his eyes.
"I was going to."
"When?"
"After this was over."
The scarred leader clapped slowly.
"Excellent."
"Even now... he's still hiding the truth."
"What truth?" Isabella demanded.
The scarred leader's smile widened.
"Your marriage."
"It wasn't fate."
"It was planned."
Isabella's heart skipped a beat.
She looked at Adrian.
"Is he lying?"
Adrian didn't answer immediately.
Finally, he spoke.
"My grandfather left instructions."
"He believed you were the lost heir."
"I was ordered to find you."
The words struck Isabella like lightning.
"So..."
"Our meeting wasn't an accident?"
"No."
"The café..."
"No."
"The contract marriage?"
"It was part of my mission."
Tears filled her eyes.
"You knew all along."
"I didn't know everything."
"But you knew enough."
Adrian took a step toward her.
"Isabella..."
"I never meant to hurt you."
She stepped away.
"So everything was a lie?"
"No."
"My feelings for you are real."
Before she could answer, the scarred leader burst into laughter.
"How touching."
"But love has always been your greatest weakness, Adrian."
He raised the stolen pendant high into the air.
Its blue light spread across the valley.
Dark clouds gathered overhead.
A cold wind howled through the mountains.
For the first time in centuries...
The sky began to change.
High above them...
The moon slowly turned crimson.
Elias's face drained of color.
"The Red Moon..."
"It has begun."
Chapter 11: The Red Moon Rises (Part 2)
The crimson moon bathed the valley in an eerie red light.
A heavy silence settled over everyone.
Even the wind seemed to stop.
Isabella slowly lifted her eyes toward the sky.
"It... it's beautiful."
"No," Elias whispered.
"It's a warning."
The scarred leader smiled as the stolen blue pendant began to pulse with light.
"The Red Moon has accepted the heir."
Adrian immediately stepped in front of Isabella.
"Stay behind me."
She grabbed his arm.
"You lied to me."
His heart sank.
"I know."
"You used me."
"I protected you."
"You were following orders!"
"I was..."
He lowered his head.
"But somewhere along the way..."
"I stopped following orders."
"I started following my heart."
Before Isabella could respond, the scarred leader raised his hand.
"Enough."
"The reunion is over."
He snapped his fingers.
The members of the Phoenix Order rushed forward.
"Protect Isabella!" Adrian shouted.
The peaceful valley instantly became a battlefield.
Steel clashed as Adrian met the first attacker.
Elias stood beside the cave entrance, his staff glowing with a faint silver light.
Mira quickly pulled Isabella behind a large stone pillar.
"You must not fight."
"I can't just hide!"
"You carry the future."
"If you fall..."
"So does the kingdom."
Isabella clenched her fists.
She hated feeling helpless.
Outside, Adrian fought with incredible speed.
One enemy after another fell before him.
But there were too many.
A masked warrior slipped past Adrian's defense and charged toward the cave.
"No!" Adrian shouted.
Before the attacker could reach Isabella, a brilliant blue light burst from her shoulder.
The crescent-shaped birthmark glowed brighter than ever.
A powerful wave of energy exploded from her body.
The attacker was thrown backward several meters, crashing into a tree.
Everyone froze.
Even the Phoenix Order stared in disbelief.
The scarred leader smiled.
"So..."
"The Queen's power has awakened."
Isabella looked at her trembling hands.
"I... I did that?"
The ground beneath them suddenly began to shake.
Cracks spread across the valley floor.
The blue pendant around the scarred leader's neck shone brighter.
At the same time, a silver light burst from deep inside the cave.
Mira's eyes widened.
"The second pendant!"
"It's responding!"
Without warning, a beam of silver light shot from the cave and met the blue light in the sky.
The two lights twisted together, forming a glowing symbol above the valley.
Every person present looked up in awe.
Queen Elena's journal suddenly slipped from Isabella's hands.
Its pages turned rapidly in the wind.
One page stopped and glowing words appeared.
"When the twin lights unite, the final trial shall begin."
Elias's face turned pale.
"The prophecy..."
"It has started."
The scarred leader laughed triumphantly.
"Exactly as I planned."
Adrian's expression hardened.
"You planned this?"
"Of course."
"I didn't need the heir."
"I needed her power to awaken."
Realization struck Adrian.
"This attack..."
"It was a trap."
"A very successful one," the scarred leader replied.
He raised his sword.
"Soon the two pendants will become one..."
"And when they do..."
"The ancient throne will belong to me."
Before anyone could stop him, he threw a black crystal into the center of the battlefield.
It exploded into thick, swirling smoke.
The valley disappeared beneath a dark cloud.
When the smoke finally cleared...
The scarred leader and every member of the Phoenix Order were gone.
Only silence remained.
Adrian immediately ran to Isabella.
"Are you hurt?"
She looked at him, her eyes still filled with pain from his earlier confession.
"I'm alive."
"But I don't know if I can trust you anymore."
Those words hurt Adrian more than any sword ever could.
He nodded slowly.
"I understand."
"But I promise..."
"I'll spend the rest of my life earning that trust back."
Before Isabella could answer, the glowing words in Queen Elena's journal faded, revealing a map hidden beneath the page.
Elias stared at it in disbelief.
"This..."
"This is the location of the Lost Kingdom."
The four of them exchanged stunned looks.
For twenty years, it had been considered nothing more than a legend.
Now...
They finally had a way to find it.
