When I came home from work it was around six o’ clock P.M. The sun was still shining brightly, the gift of summer hours. As I pulled up in front of my house I saw Lio on the porch talking to a police officer. I was hoping he had control of the situation before I got to them because I didn’t have the energy for anything else right now. I turned the engine off and got out of the car. When I got up to the porch Lio gave me his best smile but it didn’t quite reach his eyes. The officer had a dark brown skin tone and was about an inch or two shorter than Lio; but his physique wasn’t as muscular as his. He looked to be in his fifties from the look of the deep set wrinkles in his forehead and around his eyes. The forest green uniform he wore brought the shine out of his aged, hazel eyes. He had a full head of hair without a gray hair in sight. If it wasn’t a wig he must have good genetics. I looked at the nameplate on his chest when I was close enough and it read, ‘Rollards’.
Officer Rollards turned his attention to me, giving me a friendly smile. I reluctantly smiled back.
“Good evening, miss. I assume this is your residence?”
I nodded.
“Yes officer it is. Is there a problem?”
Of course there was a problem, and my new man had a lot to do with it. If I was to assume he was here about the break- in.
“I’ll explain the reason for my visit once I get your name miss.”
He said as he took a small pen and notepad from his chest pocket.
“I’m Astraia Ilithyia, sir.” I said, keeping my smile on.
I watched him scribble my name down before turning his attention towards Lio.
“And you young man? What’s your name?”
I was wondering if the officer had gotten here just before I did because he didn’t have Lio’s name yet.
“Vasilios Barzilai.”
This was the first time hearing his last name. I wasn’t sure of the origin but at least it was easier to pronounce than mine.
The nice officer wrote his name down as well
but kept his pen poised.
“I just need to ask you two a few questions about the break- in that happened here last week. We came by the morning after but a couple of guys were here fixing up the place. They told us the lady of the house wasn’t home. Can you tell me what happened that night? Where were you during the time of the incident Miss Ilithyia?”
I nodded, trying not to look as nervous as I really was.
“I was staying over at my boyfriend’s house for a couple of days.”
Officer Rollards nodded as he wrote down a small bit of my response.
“I can assume Mr. Barzilai here is said boyfriend, correct?” He asked.
“Yes sir.” I said a little too quickly. There was something about the way he asked that told me Lio had already told him that but, he needed confirmation.
“Was anything missing when you returned?”
I shook my head no.
“Is it possible that there might be someone wanting to harm you Miss Ilithyia?”
I could have given him a nice long list, but for the sake of Lio’s secret I had to lie. Besides, they would lock me in a mental institute and throw away the key if I told him the truth. Who would believe me?
“I don’t think so. I keep to myself and not many people know where I live.”
He scribbled on his notepad some more.
“I see. Now can you tell me why you haven’t come down to the station to file a formal report? You can understand the importance of reporting something like this to the authorities right?”
He looked me square in the eyes then and his cheery smile had faded a little. If I didn’t know any better he was suspicious of me.
“Well sir, since nothing was missing I knew it wasn’t necessary. I did make sure my boyfriend stayed with me for a few days when I returned home to make sure whoever broke in didn’t return.”
I sounded confident and calm as I told my first lie since this all began. I just had to get him to leave and we were home free, at least temporarily. I felt Lio put his hand on my lower back to comfort me.
“It’s a relief to see you’re alright Miss Ilithyia. However, it is still important that you report such incidents so that they can be prevented from recurring. I’ll be checking in with you again to let you know if we find any leads on your burglars. This could have been random, but judging from the amount of damage I saw being repaired I doubt that’s the case.”
Officer Rollards said, finally putting away his stationary. He looked over to Lio and his ‘good cop’ smile returned.
“You look after this young lady until we’re able to find out who’s responsible for this.”
Lio gave him a nod.
“Have a good day you two…” He said as he took his leave.
“You too, sir.” I said to him before he got too far down the steps.
We watched Officer Rollards get into his police car and drive off before we both let out a sigh of relief. I faced Lio, looking up at him. He lowered his head and bent down slightly to kiss me. It was sweet and chaste.
“You did well.” He said, smiling warmly.
“Thank you.”
I wanted to get out of my skirt suit and into something more comfortable so we went inside. Lio sat on my bed while I changed clothes. He was wearing Khaki shorts that came down past his knees with a plaid, long sleeve shirt. He had the sleeves rolled up to his forearms. The shirt was beige, baby blue, and white. The top two buttons of the shirt were undone and he’d brushed his hair back into a low ponytail. His shoes were baby blue and white low top Nike Air Forces; I adored his fashion sense.
“I have to go back home today and I’m not too proud to admit that I don’t want to leave you.” He said.
I looked over my shoulder and smiled at him.
“I enjoyed your company too. It’s going to be strange being alone in this house now.” I said, taking a lavender halter top out of the first drawer of the dresser and putting it on.
It had tiered layers that fanned out all the way down to my waist. I bent down and opened the middle drawer where I kept my jeans and pulled out a pair of light blue Capri pants. They hugged my curves but they weren’t tight fitting.
I started to put them on, but then I felt Lio step up behind me, putting his hands around my waist. I could feel him against my backside and he was certainly happy to be there.
“What would lead you to believe that I would leave you alone in this house while Lolita has the wereleopards after you?” He asked while he slid his fingers under my shirt ever so slowly.
I closed my eyes trying to fight the urge to tremble but failed. Lio did one of those masculine, alluring laughs that made me feel embarrassed.
“Don’t know…” I said.
He pulled my hair back from my neck and pressed his lips against my skin. I tilted my head back against his chest and he licked a long, wet line up to my jaw.
“I want you to come with me so you’ll have the honor of being present when I tell everyone the good news.” He whispered in my ear.
“There’s more to it though isn’t it?” I asked, sounding a bit suspicious of him.
“You catch on quickly. Yes there is more. When I announce my loyalty to you, my pack will recognize you as my potential mate. None of the females can challenge you for me, and they will no longer have a claim to my bed.”
His hand started to slide down to my stomach, over my panties, and then his hand caressed the most intimate part of me. His hand was so warm…
“Let me take you again before we go...” He said before nibbling at the nape of my neck.
He came around to my side and picked me up bridal style before tossing me onto the bed and I bounced a little when I landed. Lio started taking his shirt off so I went into my nightstand drawer beside the bed to get a condom. I was disappointed to find that we had used the last one last night. I sighed as I laid back on the bed. Lio was already undressed and crawling towards me on the bed. Damn he moved fast.
He used his legs to spread mine apart so that he could lay between them. He held himself up above me, looking down into my eyes.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
I reached up and held his face in my hands. I could feel him hard and ready against the front of my panties and I wanted him inside of me. I hated that I had to tell him no.
“We used the only condom I had last night. I’m sorry, Lio. You know I won’t take the risk.”
I said, giving him a sad smile.
Lio sighed, but he gave me his genuine, charming smile.
“It’s okay. We’ll pick some up later.”
He sounded very understanding, which made me feel a lot better.
“Thank you.”
I said. He lowered his face closer to mine and kissed me.
“I’m yours Astraia, just as you are mine. Where one opportunity is missed there is always another.” He said before getting up.
