Aurelia’s POV
The drive back to Julian’s estate is strangely silent.
Julian is next to me, jaws set, gripping the steering wheel as if it were the last thing keeping him tethered to the world. In the backseat, Drake sits silent, staring out at the streetlights flying past the window.
But I don’t think about them — I think about the message I just got.
“Aurelia, be careful who you trust. Not everyone plays fair.” *
Those words play on repeat in my head, mocking me. Who sent it? And what are they supposed to be warning — or threatening — me about?
I side-eye Julian, studying his profile. Tonight, he’s been nothing but supportive, risking everything for me even though he knows the truth behind my deal with him. But even so, doubt creeps in.
