Chapter4

Aurelia's POV His offer is so tempting and if there's anything I want so badly, it's to make Drake feel every bit of the pain I felt from the snapping of the matebond. I also want to get back at Sierra.. "But Sierra's your sister. Why are you taking my sides, not hers?" I ask him. "That she's my sister doesn't mean I should watch her maltreat my mat—" He suddenly trails off and shrugs indifferently. "Well, as a good brother, I should teach her to respect others. Besides, I really need a mate. I didn't get my mate during the coming-of-age ceremony and if my father finds out, he would try to set me up with a she-wolf I don't like." "And, If I disagree, I might lose my inheritance. So, let's just lie that you're my fated mate since you currently don't have a mate. It'll be a win-win for both of us." I study his face closely but I can't tell if he's saying the truth or not. He may be trying to use me again just like Drake did. I will be a fool to fall for this trick again. "I won't do it!" I tell him bluntly. "You are all from influential families and I won't let myself be caught in your rivalry games!" I quickly yank the shirt from him, yank the door open, and run out. As I walk back to the class, I notice the weird glances that I'm receiving from most students in the corridor. I ignore them all, trying my possible best to avoid them, or rather, they avoid me. I don't see Drake, Julain, and Sierra throughout the rest of the classes and I'm relieved as school closes and I go back home. The first thing that greets me as I push the door to the living room of my house open and walk in, is the heavy and nauseating smell of alcohol. "You omega b***h, how dare you cause a ruckus at school!?" Dad's voice shoots out. Almost immediately, an object whips past my face and cuts slightly at my cheeks. A broken bottle. I wince in pain as I leap aside. I turn to give Dad a sharp glare. Just like I think, he's deadbeat drunk and there's an empty bottle in his hands and the top is chapped— probably what he hurled at me. "Dad, what did I do this time around?" I demand angrily. He lunges at me and before I can stop him, his rough palm tears at my face, and the sound cuts across the room. It's the same spot the broken glass has bruised and the pain intensifies. "How dare you yell at me? It's my fault for feeding and clothing trash like you! How dare you mess with the Adams?" He barks. I taste blood in the corner of my lips and I hold my hurting cheeks. I'm still trying to heal from Dad's multiple hits three days ago and now, this new cut on my face again. It's going to leave a scar since I'm an omega. I swallow hard at the lumps in my. I just can't understand why Dad hates me this much. I even wonder at times if he's my father. "I didn't cause trouble, Dad." I will explain. "I was accused unjustly and—" "Cut the crap!" He slurs, shaking with drunk fury. "I just got fired by the Adams because of you, and you know I get paid only peanuts as the school's janitor. How are we supposed to survive?" I scoff incredulously. Dad doesn't even care about my survival. He cares only about himself and I only survive by doing multiple part-time jobs. How can he still blame me? "Dad, this is none of my business!" I state 'matter-of-factly'. "You should take responsib—" A resounding slap shuts me up, this time it's harder and all the air snaps out of my face. I glance at Dad and murder is written all over his face "You crazy b***h! Your very existence is an abomination. I should've just killed you at birth the moment you killed your mom!" His words drives dagger through my heart and scars it. I can't stop the hot tears that roll down my cheeks. "Why do you always blame me for mom's death? I was only an infant!" I yell back. "Are you sure I'm even your daughter?" "How dare you talk back to me?" He flares up, trembling with hysteria. "I'm going to throw you out of this f*****g house if you don't get my job back for me, you useless piece of trash!" He tries to smack me again but I grab his wrist and yank it away roughly, my eyes blazing red. "Don't you ever abuse me again!" I warn him and shock flashes through his eyes. I have never warned him this way like this before. I took his abuse without complaining but I'm just so tired of everyone treating me like a pushover. "Look, I'll help you get your job back. So, stop all this madness!" I don't even wait for his next reaction as I race out of the living room and bolt into my room, slamming the door shut behind me. I can't even think properly as I begin to peel off my uniform. My thumb grazes something in the breast pocket of the shirt. A neatly folded paper. I read the content and it's a phone number with "Julian" written in bold letters below it. Wait a minute, maybe this is my chance to redeem myself from dad. I know that dad's dismissal from the Adams place, is Sierra's work, but Julian is the heir and he can help dad get his work back. I type the number on my phone and dial it. It connects on the first ring. "Hello?" I say, feeling nerves dancing in my stomach. "Aurelia?" I hear Julian's voice from the other end. "I didn't expect to hear from you so soon." "Yeah, something came up and I had a change of mind." I clear my throat awkwardly. "I'll be your pretend girlfriend for two months. But on the condition that you help my dad get his job as your family's gardener back!"
