Aurelia’s POV The car ride to Julian’s house is stifling.” His estate comes into view, a sprawling property nestled along the winding roads, and the two of us say nothing as the sleek black sports car glides through the entrance. My knuckles are digging into the edge of my seat, and every inhalation is more difficult than the last. Julian clutches the steering wheel, his hands clinging on as if the heat of his grip could match the storm raging inside of me. For once, he’s not smirking or teasing. His jaw taut with tension, his eyes facing forward. The confidence he had until this moment has given way to something darker — something I don’t know exactly what to call, but that I sense.
